It does happen, although the bad call is usually in favor of the home team, not against it.

I was favoring Warriors ML, and even I have to admit that the zebras seemed to give a hell of a lot more calls to GSW than they did SA. Only toward the end of the game did the calls balance out.

They are not dirty just tough. Good defensive teams apply the no layup rule (Celtics/Cavs/Spurs). They rebound well, Take charges, and have a positive TO margin.
