We're assaulted or were you the victim of a simple or aggravated battery?

This is important. I'll assume you were the victim of a simple battery (touched or striked against your will but it didn't cause great bodily harm).

Most states will give you a Misdemeanor Filing Packet and you will have to go to the State Attorney's Office on your own and file charges. I'm not sure what the Statute of Limitations is but I can't imagine it's much longer that 2 or 3 years.

Why do you want to file now and not when it happened?

Couldn't have said it better myself. And if you want anyone to take you seriously, you have to file immediately after the incident.

My little brother got caught in bed with a married woman when her husband came home and beat his ass to a bloody pulp with the champagne bottle he'd brought over the night before. He was sobbing and screaming that he wanted to press charges when he made it to my house, but I told him to man up. Three days later he decided not to listen to me and went to the Sheriff's office to file charges and after he told his story the deputies laughed in his face.
