St. Louis Cardinals. Now don't get me wrong, Lynn sucks ass and Cingrani has not looked like a rookie at all. However, if you look at what the pitchers have done vs. tonight's opponent this year, the picture is dramatically different. Lynn wishes he could face Cincinnati every game, because in four starts against them he is 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, .196 average allowed and 32 strikeouts in 27 innings vs. eight walks. Cingrani has been terrific allowing two runs or less in nine of his last 10 starts. The one time he didn't? That was his only start vs. the Cardinals where he lasted only five innings. Yes he escaped with allowing only three earned runs, but he labored through 103 pitches in those five innings walking five to go along with the four hits he allowed, probably his worst start all year.

making bets based on pitchers success against the opposing team is not a great variable to determine the outcome of a game imo,
usually these pitchers only have a hand full of at bats against the opposing lineup, so its not possible to judge if pitchers success is statistically relevant or not.

Cingrani walked 5 in that Aug 3 game vs. St Louis... he's had some control issues, but gave up just 2, 1 and 1 BBs in the next three games.

With Craig, Jay and Molina (his .312 BA replaced by Tony Cruz and his .212 BA) out of the StL lineup tonight I'm big on Tony Cinci-grani and the Reds A team all in the lineup. Lynn has fared well against Cincy but not tonight, he's due for a good spanking in line with his 5.49 road ERA.

Lynn has a short history of not being able to finish a season. The same happened to him last year. The Cardinals have the worst starting pitching of the playoff contending teams, and the punk that started tonite will not sniff a playoff start. Mark my words
