Okay, now these guys are getting real serious about this playoff run. The main problem with the Pirates was their lack of offense, and now they are stacked. No, its not a young bunch, but they are experienced vets that are ready to push Pittsburgh up against the best.
Huge pickup for them giving a good hitter finally some motivation to play

Good call, glad to see Morneau is going to play in some meaningful games and hopefully in the playoffs.

The absolute best part of these deals: The Pirates sacrificed no part of their future. Excellent moves.

The Pirates First Base Platoons resulted in a .771 OPS .261 BA 16 HR's 66 RBI
Morneau has .741 OPS .259 BA 17 HR's 74 RBI
I think this just helps the bench a bit and increase the platoon capabilities of 1b and RF a smidge.

Yo Archie I'm pretty sure Garrett Jones is hitting about .220 with 12 homers... And Justin only helps a smidge? He's been the best hitter on the twins and is definitely more of a force in the box than Garrett Jones.. especially against righties.. Don't get your post

Gaby+Jones=the 1b platoon
those are their numbers
is Morneau gonna play anywhere else?
you should check those numbers on Jones as well.

wv nailed it, these moves were all no risk type moves.
clear that the bucs had given up on alex presley and vic black.

and Duke Welker
Black and Welker have some promise as back end relievers with good fastballs and sliders, but Pirates have another dozen of these guys in the minors and are great at finding misfits to make a solid bullpen.
I think Presley could do well and have a couple high end Nate McClouth type years if he gets a chance. He just didn't fit into the Pirates equation with so many other OF-ers coming up that are absolute studs like Polanco and Bell.
these moves were good for all teams involved IMO

so far every new position player has had a hit in every game they played in.
5 games for Byrd
2 game for Buck
1 game for Morneau
