I can't help but to think the worse because here we are about a week before the Superbowl and usually it's about the time that the DDos attackers try and crash the party. Well, this year I am ready for such actions. As some of the SBR readers already know by now, I have compiled a list of mirror sites for a lot of different books which you can find on the bottom left hand side of MySBR blog. Hopefully you fine folks won't have to use them at all, but in case you need to. You will be ready and won't have to jump through all the hoops like others will.

just the fact of them knowing they screwed something up or is there a monetary reason behind the attacks?

Blackmail - for a lot of sites it's cheaper just to pay up, because they lose so much for every hour offline.

Sometimes they are extorting - probably most of the time in the case of attacks on sportsbooks at Super Bowl time - but sometimes they are just angry losers lashing out at the world. SBR John reported that when SBRforum was DDOS attacked there was no monetary component to it.

I guess you are referring to the fact that at many (but not all) books, you can still place bets by phone. And you are suggesting that shutting down the website wouldn't have an effect ???

It does. It has a huge effect. It's not just the fact that phone lines get jammed up pretty fast. People want to browse lines and do stuff on-line. That's just the way things are today. If one book is down and a player has multiple outs, they will simply go somewhere else without giving it a second thought.

All the people who only have the one out start phoning at the same time. Some get through, some don't.

No matter how you slice it, a book being attacked loses huge dollars - particularly at times like the Super Bowl. Thus the opportunity to extort exists.

I always thought the ddos attack was done by other sportsbook/competitor so that they can bring a certain sportsbook down and hope people will come to theirs.
