really good article, rare from espn these days.

it seems like king is defending her lives greatest achievement while other people with little to gain are saying it wasnt all kosher, classic case of there being smoke with fire.

Anybody who watched it knew something was wrong. Surprised it wasn't questioned more at that time.

Like the Duran/Leonard fight. Anybody who watched the first fignt knew that Duran punished Leonard and Leonard said so himself in numerous interviews. It was the worst beating he ever took. Duran had too much pride to "go down" in the 2nd fight and took the "no mas" way out. Wise guys made a killing off that fight.

these both were way before my time, but the "fix" is definitely easiest to pull off in boxing or tennis, 1 on 1 sports.

ive seen clips of this, riggs definitely looked very out of shape for this match. his son says he always trained very hard for all of his matches but didnt even train for this one. larry riggs (bobs son) even bet 500 on king to win according to the article.

king i think sort of defeats her own purpose when she says that this would have led to more exhibition matches against women if riggs won, thats why he didnt throw it. apparently it turned into a he said she said over the rematch in the contract, with riggs believing he would get a rematch.
