I have no doubts that the Falcons could be a Superbowl contender but this statement makes no sense.

Just this past year, by almost every available metric and statistic, the 49ers had a far superior defense. Lost Superbowl to Ravens.

2011 - Steelers far superior defense, lost superbowl to Packers.

2010 - The swiss cheese defense of the Saints beats the Colts in the Superbowl despite a far inferior defense.

2007 - The Bears rugged, multiple category league leading defense loses Superbowl to Colts.
