It costs 3,000 points to renew your Pro membership. If your membership lapsed ("expired"), then you would still owe that very same 3,000 points, and you'd also be subject to the maximum 3,000 point carryover. So, if you had 10,000 points, you'd keep 3,000 max.

SBR head honchos being silent about the issue makes it perfectly legal which is fine by me. The SBR rule book is harder to figure out than the IRS rules.
