Coach Micah Grimes Xian,Tx girls BB coach fired for winning game 100 to 0.
Anyone hear this one.2 Xian,Texas girls high school basketball teams faced off and the score was 100-0.The coach gets fired because he's accused of bad sportmanship pouring it on and running up the score. He never apologized or rescinded an apology and was fired. He said after being comfortably ahead he shut down the full court press.I'm thinking he probably put in all the bench subs too and rested the starters. The team that got beat was one of these troubled youth accademies and that's most likely where the problem lies.I'm sure the socialist school administration said the team's self esteem was damaged and we can't have that happen in this goofball liberal environment.I have a sneakey hunch that the troubled kids team was playing dirty and talking trash and that made the capable team want to whoop their butts.

What the hell is a coach and team to do if they are manhandling the other team and are going as light as they can on them?

This is a private Christian school you dumbass. They are not a socialist school administration. Socialists send their kids to state schools not some privy $15,000 a year school.

SBR you need to do something about this idiot!

I am all for beating down an opponent, but there is more to this story that you avoided.

For one, the coaching staff was whopping at the losing team as the score approached 100. I wouldn't exactly call that "christian"----especially considering they were beating a bunch of learning disabled girls. One of which also had a physical handicap.

The winning coach could have called the dogs off very easily at say, oh 60-0. Ya know, just four corner it---and take three shots a quarter. They could also have laid off on the defensive end some. I don't think it would have hurt them to allow some borderline tardish girls to score say, 10 points.

If I were the fired coach I would say,hey guys, look at how many points they scored against us,don't you think a team that scores 0 points can't have a hell of alot more than 100 points scored against them!

As others have pointed out, there was more to the story than you failed to include...

It's high school athletics, mismatches happen, but there is a way to handle them. When they were up 30 or 40 to nothing, the coach should have put his players in a passive 2-1-2 zone on defense. Told his kids to let them shoot and not to block their shots or steal the ball. And on offense just passed the ball around on the perimeter. There are ways to hold the score down in games like this. And he didn't...this instance, the idiot coach deserved to be fired...

I'm a former HS baseball coach. We were pretty good - went on to play for the upper state title that year. We had a region game against a school that was dirt poor. No baseball talent at all. Our kids had to avoid the dirty needles/syringes laying in the parking lot on the way from the bus to the field. I'm not kidding!

We batted around in the top of the first without making an out! We could have scored 100 that day if we'd wanted to. But my starters wouldn't have gotten anything out of it. And neither would the kids on the other team.

We subbed all nine starters as they came up to bat for the second time. We brought along a few of our JV players knowing this was what was going to happen.

We played our bench guys and the JV guys we brought with us. They got the opportunity to play after all their hard work in practice.

The outcome of the game was never in doubt and we didn't humiliate a bunch of kids who were out there trying, but were just challenged both talent and resource-wise.

Coach fired after 100 point girls basketball victory

                  This is ridiculous.

Was it classy to run the full court press in the 2nd half when you're already up 59-0? No, probably not.

But what was stopping the other team from playing some defense? If they're that much worse, blame the scheduling, these two teams obviously don't belong on the hardwood together.

                      Thanks, Pavy!

Interestingly enough, our kids actually got a lot out of that day.

Our starters bitched and moaned for just a minute about how they weren't going to get to pad their stats for all-region honors but I told them what Jim Carlen said when he was asked why he pulled George Rogers in the first quarter after he had already gained over 100 yards against Pacific: "You don't win the Heisman against Pacific". You don't make all-region against these guys.

Our starters got to cheer for the bench guys/keep the scorebook/chart pitches, etc, instead of the other way around. Our bench guys got to play instead of sit.

I had a kid who wanted to go into coaching (and did). I let him coach third base and call the pitches under my supervision. All in all, it went about as well as it could have. A very pleasant bus ride back home!

the press thing is bullshit. but how in the world do you tell the benchwarmers of the team that they finally get to go into a game but they cant shoot??? that would be bullshit too. games like this are the perfect time to get the losers on the team a chance to play. the coach was merely prepping them for future games and giving them a chance to play. i dont like the idea of the press or of them even contesting a shot but no way in hell would i send a group of girls, who never get to play, out on the court and tell them they cant shoot or try to score. in h.s. thats all kids want to do. btw, how in the hell did the crowd not boo her out of the gym before halftime???

You clearly have never coached or you'd know the answer...

You let the bench kids play. They've put in their time at practice and they deserve the opportunity to play.

Here's what you do: You tell them: We're not going to fastbreak. You're going to walk the ball up the court and you're going to run the set offense we practice every day in pracitce...minimum of 5-6 passes before a shot goes up...anybody that comes down and jacks up a shot witout the required number of passes will come and sit next to me...You will be surprised at how well they listen after they've had the opportunity to come and sit next to you on the bench...

Bench kids get to play. They get to try to score (within the parameters you set) and you're doing everything you can do to help hold down the score.

                                couple things you can do..

                                pass rule
                                no 3 pointers
                                no full court press
                                no assistant coaches cheering wildly
slow the pace down walk the ball up the court
get alzhemiers or w/e and forget to play defense...
                                play your subs
                                play the towel kid.
