    Nothing But Sports Threads
JJ brought up a point about how the threads have taken a humorous and non-sports themed turn. I know many people may think my handicapping skills are limited or my knowledge of sports is miniscule because I do not write lengthy rationales on why i may take a team or total on a nightly basis. I figure deep down, who here really wants to sift through 50 opinions on a game? I mean, yeah I can write my opinion, but who is really going to read it and go . I figure the people that have humorous threads have a lot of knowledge on sports as well as other things, and wanted to share that here. For a month, I am going to write and respond to nothing but sports related threads. If ANYBODY gives a crap about my handicapping, enjoy.

The rationale behind a pick is way more important than the pick itself. If someone writes a good writeup or brings up an angle I think is valid, I always read it and consider it.

One type that I find particularly useful is when someone who has followed a team closely for years comes with a strong opinion. One of those posts that is like "I've been a huge Jayhawks fan for 15 years, and believe me when I tell you that this line of 8.5 is......." Those guys recommend betting against their team more often than they recommend betting on their team.

I like the picks without rationale. Rationale is useless if the poster is irrational.

HG, I hear what you are saying. Your point is quite valid. I mean I spend quite a bit of time "studying" before I make my picks, and for me to write a lengthy dissertation on why I like a certain team seems to be counterproductive in the long run. Just my opinion. Maybe it is because I have such a short attention span. I can honestly say I read just about every thread on this part of the forum. the sports related ones, if it is a question asking for opinions, I have a list of people I will read and "trust". If they happen to write on that thread, I will read it. Others, I have spent time reading long rationales, and when all is said and done, their opinion is just as "effective" as the guy who writes a sentence or two. Once again, my opinion.

So if I type Lakers tonight, that's enough for you to jump on them?

Seriously, I love St Johns tonight. The reason that they win big at home is because...nevermind just bet them, the reasoning isn't important.

I agree that the rationale behind a pick is way more important than the pick itself,in most cases. Probably even more important though is the poster's win/loss record. I would consider following someone blind if they are hitting 60%, at that point I don't need to read anything.

Don't need a page write-up, just a few relevant facts.

like, take such and such team because i saw such and such player is probable for tonight game.

i think those write ups are not that useful. any significant news will already be reflected in the line movement. if the line doesn't move...most of the time it is bullshit info or non-factor. if the line moves, then you're already too late.

                            what is the point.

No. You are an irrational capper in my book. I only follow 2-3 guys blindly here myself included.

write ups can also be bias.
hell I can make a write up for each side of a game with bullshit stats and trends that favor both teams
