OT - song for a wedding
I was asked to play some music at my sister's post-wedding festivities. It would be in lieu of the 2-3 minute speech I was originally asked to make - therefore probably just 1 song.

    Acoustic guitar and vocal.

I'm having trouble thinking of what to play though and wondered if people here might have some ideas. I'm thinking along pretty conventional lines. Themes of love and forever. That kind of thing.

    So I'll start the list:

    1) Frank Zappa - Why Does it Hurt When I Pee?

No but seriously man, any thoughts?

Hey Mudcat, I know this might just be too obvious and/or schlocky, but what about "Wedding Day" by The Bee Gees? It's a relatively simple arrangement and the lyrics couldn't be any more apropos. If you want a copy of it, just shoot me a PM. Congrats on being asked to perform at their wedding, those are my favorite gigs.

I just went and checked that on Youtube. Somehow I had never heard it before. Is it old? Whatever, that is a front-runner for sure. I could make a guitar arrangement of that no problem. It's nice and appropriate.

The only mitigating factor in my mind is, it might be nice if I played something by one of her favorite performers. Problem is, she likes a lot of Alt Rock. Muse, Foo Fighters etc. It doesn't lend itself to this kind of thing. She likes Neil Young. I'll take a look down his song list. There have to be a few candidates there.

But that is a great suggestion.

Someone else suggested Songbird by Fleetwood Mac. That has potential. It's not impossible that there would be a piano available but I'm not positive.

I liked the Zappa idea, but would prefer "Catholic Girls" or if not a Catholic wedding then "Titties and Beer" (although that is long and is best performed w/ a percussionist as well)....

No but seriously, I have always though Tangerine (Zeppelin) was a great acoustic track w/ themes of Love etc.

It came out on their 2001 album, This is Where I Came In, which sadly didn't have many other good tunes to offer. That song was a standout, and it seemed fairly close to what you were looking for.

If you're thinking about Songbird, just snag a copy of the Eva Cassidy arrangement and blow everybody away. I love that song.

The Clapton is not a bad idea either. It might be interesting and different to do it as a 12-string strumming tune rather than the familiar electric guitar line.

Glad I started this thread. It has got the juices flowing.

Actually I just took a little stab at the Clapton and it didn't feel right. It sounded fine but I think it would be more of a song for a groom to play for his bride than a brother to play for his sister/brother-in-law.

Of course, given our extreme caucasion condition, there is always this:
