Yah. Good read for the first half, then it turns into a repetitive diary (I bet $xx,xxx on X, it lost, I bet $xx,xxx on Y, it won, etc.). Still a fun read overall, but the editor should've cut the baloney.

Yeah. I've read it. Good book. Pretty entertaining from a bettor's perspective. Since Konik was simply a runner, it won't give you too much advanced information on the industry but the book does provide examples of the importance of getting the right numbers and some of the basic elements of handicapping. It does offer a decent look at how the Vegas sportsbooks run to a certain degree, although things have changed between the various casinos mentioned in the book now. It is definitely a great book to read if you don't have advanced knowledge of computerized probability models or the like. It will certainly make you interested in pursuing such knowledge. If nothing else, if you like betting sports, you'll enjoy the story.

Well, the first half dealt more with the intricacies of Vegas sportsbetting. The second half of the book dealt more with offshore outs and the difficulties inherent in that realm of sports betting. Also, his use of beards in the offshore industry in the second half of the book was fairly intriguing... at least to me.
