Is your self employment under the table?

If so, than absolutely yes. If you are honest and taxed on your self-employment, then no.

No. If you're employed, you are not eligible for unemployment. Unless you're talking about committing fraud. Then you certainly could file and lie and take your chances.

If you used to be self-employed but are now unemployed, you could file legally.

I'm employed by my own corporation (glorified self-employment) and pay EI both as an employer and employee, so I assume that could technically fire myself and file for unemployment if business were to become too slow to sustain a living, no? Is that what you meant, Slick?

went through this years ago. In no way would they let me collect unemployment. Not sure if some states are different, but this was in Ohio.

                  Matt,

I think you could claim EI. You are paying into it so why could you not make a claim for EI? Give it a try. If our gov turns you down then demand from them the amount you paid in.

Right, kind of along these lines.

Someone out there must be pulling this scam.
