anyone watched this show? i think it's on Mondays, maybe Tuesdays.
I recorded the first 2 episodes and was floored by some of the drug busts.
the 1st episode had some dude trying to bring sweet mary jane into the states, he had like 50 little bricks stashed in the tires, it came to about 120 something pounds, not alot in the grand scheme of things, but they said he ended up getting fined and got 3 years probation. WTF?! a fine and 3 years probation.
I've had friends and have heard stories around here of people getting jail time and fines and sentenced to drug classes for having a one hitter and some roaches. Hell, i damn near had the book thrown at me for a damn 8 ball possession and first offense years ago.
In that same episode someone was trying to export coke into Canada. I think he had around 70 pounds, and they said he got a fine and sentenced to like 3 years. Hell, he'll be out in 1 maybe 1 and a half for good behavior or over-crowding.
I'm all for drugs except for that garbage crank or meth, or coke if it's cooked into crack.
The laws just baffle me, it seems like you would be better off trying to smuggle drugs in large amounts than to be in your hometown and get pulled over for a simple possession.
Case in point was the 2nd episode, some young stoner dudes were coming back from Mexico and their car got singles out because of the dogs, the guys claimed they didn't have anything and were kinda laughing about having their car searched. One of the agents started saying it was a $5000 fine for any measurable amount, and they were getting on them about laughing and not taking the situation serious. They ended up finding a roach, if you could even call it that, and one agent said there was drug residue all over the car and told the one guy to try and SCRAPE as much together as he could and if they could at least get a measurable amount they could fine them $5000. they ended up scraping together a small amount and showed it to the dudes, but just gave them a warning and told him to clean his car, the one agent even said something like they were just trying to scare them.
I know i said Case in point for the latter story, it wasn't hometown it was border crossing, but it was just some simple possession.
there has been other odd ball stuff they deal with, but the drug stuff is fascinating to me.
