Maybe I'm just a curious person, but I'm always dying to know. Like what the f--k is a pavyracer? What's a diogee? Where does ZBOIZ come from? Etc. Some, of course, are obvious: Accuscoresucks, TSoprano, etc.

A capybara is a semi-aquatic mammal found in South America... it's actually the world's largest living rodent. Goes up to 140 lbs and looks like someone stuck a guinea pig in a giganticizing machine. Totally freaky. Something about the name just stuck in my head, and no one else is ever using it!

I've used the moniker RogueScholar for upwards of a decade now. I chose it in the classical sense of a person who makes written material normally reserved for academics available and understandable to the general public. Ted Coopman, in his Rogue Scholar's Manifesto defines the Rogue Scholar as a "learned or etrude person no longer obedient to the status quo; playful, mischievous." It's an ideal to which I have dedicated myself, and by no means a random selection.

Before going on the air for my 2nd on-air sports-talk radio show at USC (one I wasn't hosting), I was checking scores and talking with the guy who was hosting about who was covering and who wasn't. He was impressed that I remembered all the point spreads off the top of my head, and I already had a reputation as being a gambler in the group (we played poker regularly, bet on games, etc).

So we get on the air, and I have a long Italian last name that people have difficulty pronouncing, and after he botches it for the 2nd time, he says "You know what, thats too much of a mouthful, I'm just going to call you Vegas Dave from now on", and it stuck. Became my radio and TV nickname, and all the guys I worked with in sports radio still call me Vegas to this day, they just dropped the Dave after a while.
