let me put it in terms you can understand, america is a vast continent that includes many countries, yet when someone says i am american everyone assumes he is a US citizen, they forget that a canadian, a mexican, venezuelan etc are also american

and since you are such a smug knowitall, let me knock you down a notch by pointing out that you are wrong, northern ireland is not british, it is a part of the united kindom, which is a political union, but britain is a geographical region that does not include the irish isle
