    $12 million per HR
The latest news, videos, scores and more on the biggest sports, including NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA, Soccer, Boxing, NASCAR and more with Sporting News

Unless they quickly can find a trading partner, the Dodgers are expected to release outfielder Andruw Jones today. MLB.com reports L.A. had trade discussions about Jones with two teams earlier this week, but couldn't finalize a deal.
Jones is signed through the 2009 season, but he agreed to defer $21.1 million of his remaining salary if the team would trade or release him by January 15. Barring a trade, Jones soon will become a free agent. In the first season of a two-year deal with Los Angeles, Jones hit .158 with three homers and 14 RBIs in 75 games in 2008. He battled a knee injury and butted heads with the team about his conditioning (or lack thereof).

Someone noted in that Bobby Cox thread about how the Braves have shown an uncanny knack for releasing or trading players at the right time, and Andruw Jones certainly adds to that.

Just 3 years ago he was the MVP of the league.

The best center fielder the game has ever seen or will ever see. Lord only knows what the ERA's of Smoltz and Hudson would have been without Andrew out there catching the impossible.

He is simply over the hill. Everyone reaches this.

Gotta give Braves credit.... when asked why they didn't re-sign him, they said that Andruw had lost his desire to play baseball.

Andruw Jones = $12M per HR.
Jason Schmidt = $8M per start.
Ned Colleti = Why isn't this clown in the unemployment line?

The dude was fat and terrible before he got to the Dodgers. Was one of the worst signings ever. I cannot wait until he is finally off the Dodgers.

I'm still surprised that the Dodgers even signed him in the first place after that horrible year he had in the last year of his contract. Then again even the 2nd to last year of the contract was bad. This has a Oakland A's type signing written all over it.

Come on now Andruw Jones is good but he is not the best centerfielder the league has even seen. There have been many incredible centerfielders and I would rank Andruw probably in the top five.
