I would like to know as well. They are some of the most ignorant posts ever to appear on SBR.

Lock=lock it away in a lock box since you won't have to worry about cashing it.

Anyhow, to answer your question, I believe that when Uncle Richie posts a mortal lock, he's using it in the original sense of the Latin word "mortis", which just means death. So when he says "Mortal Lock", I read it to mean a "Dead-On Pick". You know, when someone says "I know this matchup dead to rights!" I'm of the opinion that he feels that he's got the line nailed cold, and so to imply a life-or-death call on the game is his way of saying that it's as strong a feeling on a game as he could have.

Guys, these locks are just nothing more than someone who loves gambling imparting to us that they have a great feeling on a bet. We're all granted free-will by our Creator, and so we have to take responsibility for evaluating not only the pick itself but the person giving it. Stop ragging on people who share their picks with feeling and intensity, it's part of what makes our social circle unique.

Already covered this, BBD. You should "Tacomax" the archives more.

The responses are wrong...A Mortal Lock is a play you would bet your life on.

With that logic Mr.Richkas would have more lives than a cat.

Mortal means "liable or likely to die" so a mortal like means "my lock is likely to die."

It's really quite perfect if you think about it, whether it's intentional or not.

A "lock" is what you put on the door of your house/apt.

A "Mortal lock" is the opposite side of a Richkas posted play.

                  Word.
