What would you do? (Hypothetical Situation)
You won $15,000 from your bookie and meet him somewhere to pick up the money. The bookie hands you 150 one hundred dollar bills that you fold in half and stick in your pocket. On the way home you get pulled over in a traffic violation and the cop wants to search your car, as you get out he see's the bulge in your pants pocket and asks you to remove what is in it.

Personally I am making a run for it 100% of the time. Fuk my car and the things in it, not worth any wheres close to the money in my pocket. Most cops are in poor shape and wouldn't be able to catch you and even if they are in good enough shape they will never chance after you in a one on one situation. They always like it to be 4 to 1 or 5 to 1. So they won't pursue you until they have the right numbers giving you a big head start.

If your stupid enough to hand the money over here is what is going to happen:

#1 the cops going to say this is drug money
#2 you will spend more on lawyer fees than money lost trying to get it back
#3 you won't get a fair trail (did you not see the reports that government wins 99% of their cases)
#4 even if you can get it back (which you can't) it will be years and years

First off, I wouldn't have the money in my pocket...

Secondly, cops have to have a warrant to search your car. Unless they have probable cause, not going to happen.

Third, you talk like Squidward from Spongebob. Since you're not threatening at all, I think you'd be okay.

yeah if you run they can't use the car to figure out who you are...

like that guy said ^.... don't have the money in your pocket in the first place (duh)

and even if you did for some reason, wouldn't you be focused on being a perfect driver on the way home?

        duh

I'll be worried about the guns and my friends with guns because there is no way I'm going to
pick up 15k solo and without my piece.

Wouldn't happen on the 'cops ask you to remove it'. First off a traffic violation alone doesn't warrant you being pulled out and searched. Your car eaither...unless something in plain view or the smell of drugs/alcohol.

Also even if you are patted down and they pull out the $1s it's not as if that alone is cause for them to seize it or even accuse you of drug trafficking since the denominations don't match the normal purchases made in $5/$10/$20 bills.

              Case closed....

Besides, you'll never win that much anyway Haines so only worry about reality pal.

Actually had something similar happen to me. I was by myself driving to Vegas from Lake Tahoe in a rental car and got pulled over. If you have ever made this drive or driven around in rural Nevada you know there is nothing around. No cell service, no radio signal, no cars for 15-30 minutes at a time. The landscape looks like something from the surface of Mars.

So I get pulled by two cops in an SUV and the one on the passenger side gets out, comes to the passenger side window and tells me I was speeding. He asks to see my license. I reach in my pocket and have to take out about $3500 I have for my poker bankroll to get to it. I don't think much about taking this out to get to my license, but I guess it looks funny to a cop. While I'm looking down fumbling for my license he says, "why do you have so much cash on you?"

Now this is a little bit different than the OP's scenario because I'm in a state where gambling is legal. That isn't my concern though. There is no one and nothing around for miles, and I have to decide if this cop wants an answer or wants some cash. Either option could be the wrong one. The officer isn't exactly bubbling with personality and he could just as easily "confiscate" my money as write me a ticket, or worse. I mean, what was I going to do?

I decide to give him the answer instead of a bribe and he says, "you have any drugs on you?" I calmly say, "No", but I don't like where this is headed. He doesn't seem to accept that answer and asks again. I tell him, "look you can search the car if you want to." By this time he's flipping through the rental papers and finds that I got a contract for unlimited driving in 4 states. He asks me, "Why would you need to drive around in 4 states if you were just playing poker?"

I have no idea why I agreed to this contract, the rental agent made it sound like a great deal so I agreed. Of course now I wish I hadn't. I explain to the officer this was just what the rental agent signed me up for, I don't know why I need 4 states either. Well he doesn't seem like this answer and goes back to his SUV for a very long 20 minutes.

During these 20 minutes I'm either nervously checking my rear view mirror or scanning the landscape for where my imminent burial may soon occur, all the while rerunning our conversation in my head and wondering what those 2 cops are deciding to do with me. The worst scenarios seem to be the first ones you think of way out here.

Finally he approaches the window and hands me a speeding ticket. He hesitates for a moment and asks, "Have you ever been on tv with the World Poker Tour or WSOP?" I take the ticket saying, "No I'm not that lucky" and drive away slowly.

Do you guys live in China or North Korea?

Here in Canada I would tell the cop to go fuk his hat and mind his own goddamn business.

And that would be the end of that.

It's different in the US. Most of the cops here got picked on in high school and couldn't get into college so they beat the shit out of people every day. It's on youtube

Look at your join date and the number of posts you racked up you fuking loser. Most people post on a wide array subjects but with your feeble little simple mind every subject is the same. Some stupid cut and paste from whatever racist site, arayn nation or right wing propaganda site you happen to be jerking yourself off to. Then too top it all off your too fuking stupid to formulate any original thoughts and leave just as a cut and paste. You ever stop and think to yourself that you could just paste the link and save much time for you to sit around in your pissed stained underwear and ponder your miserable existence?

for the record, you've never even seen 5k let alone 15k emily. but just to humor you, its none of the cops business where that money came from as long as you dont have drugs on you or dont have a lengthy record. for all he knows, you could have just came from the bank to buy a car or a ring or loan money to someone or whatever. there is no law on the books that says you cant drive a car with a large sum of cash on you.

You guys are pretty naive if you think a cop can't search you.

And yes I have had 20k cash in my pocket many, many, many times.

I will never willingly hand it over to a cop

This is a great story. This would be a great beginning to a crime movie, I can just picture it now. They let you go but you are in reality a paid killer stalking his victim. And naturally later you are forced into a gunfight with these two same cops. You should work on this and submit it. Has potential.

Oh and btw I am not trying to be sarcastic at all, I am serious. Sounds like a good story.

Had a very similar situation happen to me when I was 17. Except it was by the border patrol, and 10K, not from a bookie - but equally as questionable.

The answer here, under no circumstances do you willfully cooperate, with anything they ask for. Running, you will just end up losing the money with not even a receipt.

Use some of the Cash to lawyer up for the few moments you need to - Lawyers will make sure they get the money. It's what they do best.

Or, under no circumstance let them search you car without a warrant. Put that shit in a locked glove box or trunk, offers more legal protection.

Also, if they insist on searching the vehicle, throw the keys inside and lock the car. I've done this on more than one occasion. It affords you enough time to contact representation, which should have been dialed the moment the lights appeared in your rear view.

I play a lot of 5/10 poker. I usually take 3-4k with me and if i win im comming home with about 7-8k. 1 time over 10k( im not acting like im a winner cause im not). Anyways im used to having a lot of cash on me and if i was pulled over i wouldnt be afraid if cop saw cash. If he takes it i'll get a good lawyer. I can prove its not drug money.
