I don't know what exactly qualifies as junk in everyone's mind. I suspect we would all disagree slightly on the details. But I'll say this:

Over the years, I have brought up the topic a few times of having a General Discussion or Off Topic type sub-forum. I am in favor of it because I prefer Players Talk to be about stuff relating to being a Player as much as possible.

I would actually post more if there was that separate forum. I resist posting some discussion I want to have just because I feel like I'd be gumming things up too much.

I did a few polls. As I recalls the votes came out slightly in favor of a separate General Discussion forum, but SBR hasn't wanted to do it.

I vote no in the poll BTW. My idea of what is junk around here seems to stay pretty consistent.

As a poster that tends to write lighthearted and non sports issued threads, I guess I am guilty of the said crap. I write what I write because I can find sports info on this site in so many different places. I figure sharing a laugh or two keeps me centered when I am handicapping. I do not think it is coincidence that since I have been contributing to the forum, my capping skills have improved quite a bit. I treat the sports banter as my main course and my "goofy" threads as my dessert.

I notice there has been a sharp reduction in the number of picks in the Players Talk forum in the last month or so. I don't know if SBR has made a calculated effort in that direction or it has just happened organically. But to me, whatever the cause, it is good.

But I know lots of people love lots of picks all over the place and would disagree with me. As Panic says, one man's junk is another man's treasure.

What the paid posters don't realize is that by fueling the bullshit factor and steering all the "non-paid" posters away the money will dry up and this place will become history like what happened to EOG. You can only stir the shit for so long before it eventually creates a draft and hits the fun.
