South San Fran would be best as far as living but your options would be limited because transportation wise you need to be near bart if you wanna be able to get around the bay area!
If you arent going to have a car and dont plan to travel/move around much than most places in the SF are fine just dont live in downtown area is my only recemendation!

I mean if you have a reason to need/want to live there than I guess,
But to much homeless all over way over priced places that arent all that nice! I mean im sure the price range you have to work with has a lot to do with it but unless you wanna shell over 2,500+ a month for rent or something 700k or higher to own. Also if you were to drive most places charge 150-200 a month to park your car! I understand 2,500 for rent is bad but it is when you get a place that is smaller than some closets!

Amen to that, Ryan. Up here closer to the Gorda Plate Triple Fault Junction we have a small (~3-4 magnitude) earthquake every week. That's equivalent to the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, enough to make you stop in your tracks and figure out if the Earth truly is moving underneath you. Really, earthquakes in Northern California (and generally the Pacific Northwest at large) have become relegated to more and more non-events. Structures are designed to withstand all but the most major of them, and this area has the best earthquake response planning in the world.
Pico, if I was going to move to San Francisco, I'd choose to live in Daly City. Unless you need to live within the city limits of San Francisco, you're better off in Daly City where you have super-easy access to San Francisco International Airport (just 8 miles away) and all of the economy of the Peninsula (San Mateo County). There are two BART (metro light rail) stations there, meaning you can pick either of the two neighborhoods that surround those stations. Daly City also is seved by three MUNI routes (busses) taking you into other parts of San Francisco that aren't served by BART.
If you need any further advice, or help moving, just let me know. I'm always happy to hear of a friend moving to my area, as I think it's the most beautiful, most progressive, and happiest part of the world.

Daly City is in a convenient location, but you never see the sun there. So if you like sunshine, Daly City is not for you. If you have an aversion to the sun it is Win-Win!!

I spent the first 15 years of my life living in the Fog Belt, the lack of sunny days has never affected me in the least. I guess that's why I enjoyed living in Portland so much.
As far as the lack of sun in Daly City, it's true, but if you want sun it's easy to hop on BART and go spend an afternoon in Berkeley, have lunch in Jack London Square in Oakland, go on one of those cheesy little paddleboats in Martinez, plenty of options. Daly City is just an idea place to live, but once you get used to the Bay Area you'll just be there to sleep, too much going on around you to stay at home.

Thats more involved than you make it sound, again if no sun doesn't bother you then Daly City is fine.
If you like sun, 15-20 miles south is much better, I like to wake up with the morning sun through the window.

Enjoy the $4,000 a month rent or the $6000 a month mortgage payment.
By far the most overpriced city in America

Can't argue with a word you said, Ryan. I love the Flips too, awesome food (I could live off lumpia, dude), excellent neighbors, beautiful girls, and big drinkers. Life is good, and NorCal does rock. Anybody who lives elsewhere by choice just doesn't know how good things could be in their life.
Nice place to live, too. Like I said, if I was gonna live in the Bay, that's right where I would live. Easy jaunt down to Half Moon Bay where I could keep my boat, and a central place from which to get to the East Bay and South Bay without much hassle.
