dude, after 3 days I totallly have no hunger... gotta make sure you eat less then 20 carbs.... gotta watch for hidden carbs, lots of things that you don't think have any have 4-5 grams, and it adds up... to get into ketosis you gotta stay very low for awhile...
but it just may not be the diet for you....

pretty much the same...
eggs, bacon and sausage for the first few weeks.. I cut out pork after a month or so...
chicken (make sure its not breaded) ground beef, some tuna, salad with italian or bleu cheese... no carrots, peppers, cucs...
water... beef jerky, sugar free jello for when I get sweet cravings... cold cuts... ah.. I can't think right now...

I've had decent results using copious amounts of bacon... obscene amounts of bacon...but that was in my early 20's but now in late 20's and now 31 i find I gotta tighten up and wanna protect my arteries...
but the bacon fat helps kick you into ketosis faster, and that is the name of the game in this diet

ketonic diets also raise cholesterol levels 30% and raise the risk of kidney stones.

not true mmike... but you might see that in reader's digest or hear it on oprah...
I've gone through the medical journals...was doing this back when I was 16 for wrestling to make weight and keep strength... so 15 years now... since i was 22 I would have blood tests every once in awhile baseline, during and after the diet..i've actually had my bad cholesterol go down, bp go down ect...

Your body needs carbs for energy. Without carbs, your body goes into ketosis... you trick your body into believing that it is starving to death.
As such, yes, it does eat fat you have stored on your body; but it also eats muscle as well, which is why if you work out on this diet you won't see good results.
The high intake of protein and low carbs also puts you at an increased rate of heart disease.
You will lose some weight fast, but you will hit a plateau and the diet is unhealthy. You often will feel more anger/irritable as well.
There are no short cuts... calorie counting and exercise is the only healthy way to lose weight. Cutting the body's source of energy out of your diet is not.
P.S. If you cheat and/or accidentally eat something carb laden, since your body thinks you are starving it will store that as fat immediately. There is zero room for error.

actually the opposite dave... in ketosis, it is the only way that you can go below maintenance calories and not lose muscle and if you go about it right and do some Targeted keto tricks you can gain muscle
I lost about 40 lbs of scale weight but gained 9 pounds of muscle in 12 weeks...

also, my protein intake is actually quite low for my standards when on a ketogenic diet....lower then if i'm on a 40-40-20 diet in fact...
I don't recommend any try this diet..and only 2 people i have ever met have the discipline to do it the way I do it... but it works for me... I don't need to read popular culture science... I see the results every time.. no ill effects.... but its definately not for everyone.... many ways to skin a cat...

why not practice a proven "healthy" diet and weight training program year round instead of a crash course diet once a year?
I was never into the diet aspect of weight training when I was lifting. of course I didnt see the gains that were possible with a strict diet either. with my line of work though I stay in decent shape and I also have a fast metabolism so gaining unwanted weight has never been a problem.

not a crash diet for me... if i'm lifting or competing in powerlifting i'm using different low mod carb approaches to diet year round... ripped my pec earlier this year and stopped lifting for a few months..so ate whatever now i'm trying to test my body/pec to see if I can get back into lifting regularly... and get back under the 165 weight class..
again, i'm not telling anyone to do this diet.... it has always worked for me..i've never had health problems and i've yet to see anyone make the changes to their body without drugs as well as I have... bragging yes.,.but still the truth...
if i'm not on moderate carbs (like under 50 grams) i'll want to eat all sweets and all processed crap... with all the diabetes these days, I think most people would do well to control their carbs better... that is the bigger worry... don't worry about my body and my diet.. I'll accept any consequences... so far there have been none

Pork: You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it.
Pork-kabobs, Pork creole, Pork gumbo. Pan fried Pork, deep fried Pork, stir-fried Pork. There's pineapple Pork, lemon Pork, coconut Pork, pepper Pork, Pork soup, Pork stew, Pork salad, Pork and potatoes, Pork burger, Pork sandwich, that's about it.

Everything seems to be "unhealthy" according to someone somewhere.
Sitting in front of a computer/tv all day eating snacks and drinking pop/beer etc is also "unhealthy" according to some.

im definitely the most self-disciplined person I have ever known and take pride in that. I worked 2 FT jobs and went to school FT and maintained a g/f and a 3.5 gpa. As a result though, I gained like 35 pounds and now I am at a place where I only have to work one FT job and only am taking one class, so I am focusing on getting healthy again...
I researched this diet for a week and a half before I started it, I read all the pros and cons and seems to me that its not unhealthy at all as long as you stick to the diet and dont try to do ketosis for a week take a week off etc etc etc...if you do the atkin's diet and stick to it for say a month or however long your goals require you to, its quite healthy actually...
This is all assuming you are not diabetic...diabetics should NOT try this diet
just think before I started the diet I was eating a lot more sugar and drinking 2-3 dr peppers a day...most forms of carb are UNHEALTHY...i guarantee you I am a more healthy person because I started this a week ago...
Thanks Chi
The beer thing will be the hardest part IMO but ill get through it.
