The quandary of Vegas sports betting
Line shopping in Vegas can sometimes be cumbersome. Trying to manuever between casinos often takes a bit of time, especially on the strip. Parking garages are often located on the opposite side of the casino as the sportsbook. Valets take far too long to turn your ticket in, tip the valet, and get your car. And there are often long taxi and limo lines and they add up to a small fortune after a while if you were to use them daily. Anyway, today I was trying to get a bet in on Citadel. I was looking to get +2.5. I left my place at 1pm and the game started at 3pm. There was an accident on the 15 at Trop and traffic was backed up for miles. After 20 minutes of stop and go, I finally got off the freeway and stopped off at a Leroy's to find their line had dropped to +2. The Hilton was my closest option that had Citadel at +2.5 when I left my place. There are two huge conventions in town that started this week. AVN and CES. And the Hilton just happens to be neighbors with the Convention Center. As I pulled up to the sportsbook parking lot (one of the few casinos that has convenient sportsbook parking), a security officer directs me to the north lot since they are using the sportsbook lot for convention overflow parking (at $30 a crack). The north lot is a country mile from the sportsbook. I finally park my car and walk all the way to the book to find that the line on Citadel had dropped to +1.5. Fvck. It's now 2:40. I call one of my friends and ask him to check on the Citadel lines. Station casinos still has them at +2.5! I'm in luck. I have 20 minutes to go about 2 miles. As Murphy's law would have it, I hit every red light possible (some of them multiple times due to the traffic). I tear into the Palace Station lot at 2:59 and come to a screeching halt in handicap parking. I run up to the window:

    "What's the line on 756?"
    "+2.5"
    "Okay, give..."
"It just went off the board."
    "Fvck!"

What a pain in the ass.

yeah Vegas sportsbooks should really let you place bets online. I would have thought you could do this.

There are a couple of books that allow Nevada residents to setup accounts now. Coast and Stations. Stations recently got theirs up and running. I'll be setting up an account with them shortly. However, the majority of books still do not offer that option. So it only helps on occasion.

1% means a lot in handicapping. I can't begin to count the games that I've won or lost that were decided by a hook.

Almost all of my offshore play is exclusively on Matchbook now. I can't find any sense in subjecting myself to processor and payment issues when I can wager legally in my backyard now. If things ever return to pre-UIGEA conditions, I'll start playing more offshore again.

Monkey you should invest in a nice bike like Kevin Bacon in 'Quicksilver'.

Seriously though....might be quicker to zip in between books?

Heh. I think I might buy a motorcycle actually. I'd have to drive a bicycle down to the strip anyway. I live in Summerlin - about 7 miles away from the strip. I could shoot up the dividers on a motorcycle at least.

Fortunately, it doesn't happen like that too often. But yeah, I'm going to resolve it somehow. I did manage to get all of my other bets in today without a hitch, though.

You can not count all the games you lost by a hook , only matters if you could have gotten a better line.

Do you keep up with all the wins you passed on looking for a better number or passed on wanting the extra points ?

Like Justins video last year where he passed on a winner because of a 1/2 point. The only difference in the line would he would have pushed instead of won if it came down to the number.

If getting that extra hook didn't matter we could all just play at 1 book instead of multiple books.

Vegas traffic is a joke. These people don't know how to synchronize a stoplight. The ****s bitch about lack of business? **** em. You don't have the room to support the hoards. They're just so used to easy money they can't imagine anything different. Maybe these assholes can lower some more paybacks on games. After all they only care for oblivious **** business.

The last time I was there, I was partying with some Irish lasses who were staying there. After I left (around 10am), I somehow stumbled over to Slots-A-Fun. I ran into two dudes who were equally as intoxicated as I was. We thought at the time that it'd be fun to mess around with security there and had a contest to see who could get booted first. Needless to say, shortly after attempting to tap out (not the MMA type of tap out, however) a dealer in the blackjack pit, I was not so kindly escorted from the property by a team of security guards.

LOL...the first time I went to Vegas, Circus Circus was the first book I stopped at (was staying at Strat). So I thought that was the deal. There was just baseball on, but I sat there for over 4 hours.

Imagine my surprise when I made my way down to the Bellagio!!

Sadly, I think that place may be the next casino on the chopping block if the economy ever turns around here.
