Is my bookie secretely tailing me?

This is a local guy that I started betting with at the beginning of football in 2008. I met him at a poker room and he went to high-school with a friend of mine so i started playing with him small (about 100 to 200 a bet). We settle every Tuesday and usually pay off the whole amount unless the amount is too small (in which case we usually roll over to next week), or too big (in which case we require a minimum $500 a week until the balance gets below $500).

So after a few weeks of getting paid on time I started betting a little bigger and built up about $13,000. Then he started slow-rolling me, telling me everyone was winning and he didn't have any money to pay me, not even the $500 a week that we had agreed upon.

So I slowed down with him and was only playing 1 or 2 $100 bets a week, after about 3 weeks he asked me why i wasn't playing anymore (stupid question ) so i basically told him I still was playing, just not with him because he owed me so much money. As soon as that happened he started paying me the $500 a week and hasn't missed a payment in about a month. He let's me play games as soon as the lines come out, and let's me add to or even cancel any bet up until game time. I can even cancel a bet if the line moves in my favor, and then bet it again at the better odds. In the case of the Florida game today, I got them at -2.5 (buying a hook) and now the line is around 5 so I added some money to that bet. On the Texas game I had bet Texas big when the line was -10 and after seeing the crazy reverse line movement I got off the bet and put a small one on Ohio State.

Keep in mind I haven't given this guy a single dollar since I started betting with him (i had 3 loosing weeks since football started and one of them was less than 500 so I rolled it over and on the other 2 I was up money so he just took it off my balance.

So why would he start paying me when I didn't want to bet with him anymore? And why would he let me bet early, change my bet, add, or cancel bets, even get the same bet at a better price? This is shit even online books don't let you do (I forgot to mention I bet at -105 with him). The only thing I can think of is that he follows my plays and makes enough to cover my bet and make a profit. I can't believe he actually expects me to lose all the money I'm up.

Has this ever happened to anyone, and what do you guys think of this situation?

Well it honestly doesn't surprise me. My bookie made a comment earlier in the yr cause i was having winning weeks after weeks, that he was going 2 start betting what i bet. The bookies know who u tail when there HOT and who not 2. If he makes money off betting what u bet win win situation for them, they don't use the loseing money and pay u and just keep the juice. They have made lots more by betting what u have. Now whether my bookie actually is tailing me i don't know but he did make the comment.

All he is doing is pushing your bets off on another (bigger) book. I don't know what kind of lines you get, but he might even be putting your bets off with on offshore book. Or maybe he has a partner in Vegas who is making the plays in a casino book.

This is common practice, one bookie laying bets off on a bigger bookie.

If he is getting a better line than he is giving you, then it might even be profitable. He is just trying to keep his losses from you low while you are hot.

And it is true, bookies make money following their good players or the ones that are on winning streaks, and fading the ones that always lose. Sometimes they just pass the action of good players onto their bookies and sometimes they just take the bet and bump it so they make some too when you hit.

He gives me -105 and the flexibility of canceling plays, or adding to them. On college this was huge this year as I would lock up games I liked on the opening line and then either add or cancel and get them with better lines by gametime.

I don't think he can get better lines than me if he let's me do that.

I really hope the well doesn't run dry. That's why I am wondering what he is doing because I hope he is indeed tailing my picks so that i don't bust him. Keep in mind the guy also has a lot of suckers that don't bet as big as me but are dropping constantly 300 to 400 a week to him so if he is smart he is making a ****ing killing by collecting from these guys and bumping my bets.

Hey Cheme I know you can kill the books on football but I read a post where you where asking for someone to partner up with to do basketball. I bought a system that a few users in here also have, that thing is a killer on NBA (it's not for college though, only NBA). If you want I can send you the picks so that you can check it out (the least I could do for you since you shared all your football bets with me). The system also has baseball plays and a little NFL (it hits about 60% on NFL but you hit 70% so I really don't use it for NFL, I just tail you ).

A lot of bookies will give you reduced juice if you ask them. But most people just assume that they won't move from -110 so they stay at that. If you give them enough action some of them will give -105. It's like when you go to a nice boutique and your wife sees a nice purse or a pair of shoes that she likes and the mother****ers have a $500 price tag on it. A lot of people would assume that is the fixed price and are intimidated to even ask what price they can get if they want to buy the item. Those places wil let you haggle and will usually take at least 20% off the item, sometimes as much as 40%. Full juice, just like full sticker price, and parlays are just for suckers.

Sounds good bro, I really haven't found anybody that can give me consistent winners on basketball. I'm not expecting 70% but 60% or even high 50's will do in basketball since there are so many games.

As far as baseball, I spent a lot of time in the offseason trying to get better at it. I have done it but usually hit about 65% on favorites that average ML -175 so that makes me little profit. This season I really want to bet baseball and show a decent profit on it so I have been working hard at it.

As usual my formula for success is to make few bets but for big amounts. Just like in college basketball where I usually don't bet more than 20 games a season.

Depends on what lines you get. He probably has accounts all over offshore and has colleagues in Vegas. He can probably shop lines at far more places than you can.

Most locals move their lines when action comes in on one side or another because they are evening out the action. I would doubt you are getting very good lines unless you are one of the first people to make plays every day.

Your bookie is tailing you or offering you alternate lines because he knows your pounding lines that move right away... he's prob giving double lines offering you one set to keep you around and offering other lines to other clients, not in there favor.

Technically he hasn't lost that much money yet...it looks like it on paper, but not really.... he hasn't settled in full yet...

Worst part is i just need to put 100 on the game to lock that line up. I can then bump it to a dime and still keep the same line even if there has been heavy movement (see Florida game today).
