There are a couple techs in this office who couldn't tell you the difference between a first down and a field goal, but I don't think that means they're bad people.

5'er, I am in your boat. Lately I have had to accept that some guys are into other things like World of Warcraft or Nascar (which isn't a sport). Oh well.

if i ever.. and i mean ever.. have a son.. and i pray to god i do, and not a daughter.. i will try everything in my power to make him like sports. i will get season tickets to habs games, i'll buy him a hockey stick and skates on his 2nd bday.. i will have the 60 inch plasma in basement to watch hockey together sat night, i will play hockey with him in basement and in driveway.. i will build an ice rink in backyard for him.. i wil pitch and catch, shoot hoops in driveway. i will try everything i can to make him like sports..

and if he still doesn't like it.. i will be very depressed OR put him up on ebay OR put a gun to my head.. which i am sure alot of sbr posters here would love..

i just pray to GOD he will like sports, cause when a guy loves sports and it's your kid, nothing like it.. i really hope he does like sports, or i might not love him the same way.. It's important for a male to grow up liking sports and not be into another silly hobby.. or he will be bugged at in school and be called a sissy

My dad and my brother both don't like sports... I don't know why I became such a huge sports fan.. none of my friends are into sports as much as I am either. I don't know. My brother says stuff like, "I just couldn't care less about what happens with a group of men playing some game". I can't really argue with him, I don't know why I do (even when I don't have money on it).

What upsets me are people that watch the big game or something and pretend like they know stuff...

Its just embarrassing when they are talking and others around think they know stuff because the others personally know nothing... I see this a lot when games are campus and in the bars/friends apartments

I just sit back and shake my head

This reminds me, for the last UFC ppv, I went out to a bar, and this douchebag next to me was trying to impress his date by giving her errant fact after errant fact.

Once he tried to BS some gambling info though, something had to be done.

When Nogueira was KO'd by Frank Mir in a huge upset, she asked him how much would she have won if she bet $1000 on Mir. Smugly, he answered "about $1,800."

I leaned over and said, "Actually, you would've won around $3000."

Homeboy did not look happy. It made the money I lost on the fight worth it.

LOL...You sound like a friend of mine who has done everything in his control to ensure that his kid grows up to be a baseball player. Now that he's around 8 years old, he fits the description of "someone who tortures animals and will grow up to kill people" much better.

                                    Don't push it fellas.

no need to force your kids to play sports. I have 2 sons ( 7 and 2 yrs old) my 7 yr old loves the same sports as me. ( football B-ball) he hates baseball just like me also. and no I didnt brainwash him to feel this way. in fact I never got into football untill I was in my teens. I asked if he wanted to play last year cause he is a tuff SOB. he played and loved it.
but this past year he blossomed as a football player. he understands more of the game now. and will knock a kids head off if given the chance. I cant count how many times this year that he layed a lick like Ronnie Lott used to. keep in mind I'm talking about pee wee football ,not much blocking going on. he would play defensive end on defense and bum rush the QB every play. on offense he was the 1/2back and once I showed him all he had to do was put his head down and run over the sissy boys, he was on his way.
as a father theres nothing more satisfying as seeing your 50LB 7yr old running over kids that out weigh him by 30LBS.

but my 2 yr old was born with 1 kidney and the docs dont want him playing sports.
its gonna be a tuff call but I say let the kid play and enjoy life
