Why do basketball people feel the need to compare players all the time

Who is better this guy or that guy. Seems like whenever I turn it to TNT or NBA Tv it's always a bunch of guys sitting around a table with coffee cups filled with water talking about a player in this generation being better than a player in another. Who fukkin cares? Same with quarterbacks. Shits getting old.

because the athletes today are sissies and are not as tough as our old school athletes of the 80s and 90s. I'm not even 30 yet, but I miss the days when players didn't flop and when quarterbacks would get blasted by linebackers and defenders without a fine/penalty.
