It depends on what kind of gambling you're talking about.

Does logic work in the stock market? No, it's mostly irrational.

Does logic work for poker? I think so but a good ability to read people and average logic and math skills can make you good poker player too.

For sports betting, having a feel for what's coming is more important than crunching numbers and using logic. The latter is very important too though.

There isn't really a direct correlation between occupation and gambling ability. There are plumbers that are very sharp when it comes to the nuances of betting, and there are investment backers that always bet with the squares and lose their ass.

To make a sweeping generalization just for fun:

Lawyers would only like to gamble with other people's money. Their occupation makes them better suited for arbitrage/scalping. Other people do the gambling, they make money.

Most lawyers probably don't gamble they all like to take plea deals rather than argue cases/go to trial, if they were gamblers they would tell clients to take a chance on trial more often

pico, we used to book many lawyers back in the days and they were the biggest squares. pico, it didn't matter if they were a lawyer or a doctor or even an accountant, which you'd think they'd be sharp since they knew #'s... it didn't matter cause they all lost.. and why?? that's because gambling is a disease, it's a sickness that controls you, just like drugs or alcohol.. they bet for the compulsion.. its like saying are lawyers good alcoholics? of course not.. if they are addicted to alcohol and get drunk every night cause they are addicted or depressed, they will get drunk like you and i or anyone else.. just because they're lawyers does not mean they can control the addiction better.

to answer your question.. NO... lawyers are not better gamblers, nor are accountants..

I love trials. In addition to being fun, you almost ALWAYS get the most equity out of your case by preparing for trial. The only exception is when the other side doesn't know its case, and offers too much early.

In my old law firm, I used to make probability charts for other lawyers showing equities of different strategies (settle, try certain issues, try everything).

there most likely bad gamblers. My uncle is a lawyer and i worked in his firm for nearly a year. Most of them are too opinionated and wouldnt be able to take in all the information to win consistantly. They will hop on a side and believe that is right until well they are proven wrong, then come up with a quick excuse to not look like a complete idiot. Ive seen it happen way too many times

Depends whether or not they are a good or bad lawyer. Doctors have to be some of the worst gamblers.
