Is there a regular season more pointless than Hockey's

Out of the 4 major sports? Over half the teams in the league make the playoffs, and when they do, seedings and home ice don't mean anything.

Why is that? Parity? Do teams just get luckier in hockey?

Seems like you basically just ignore the entire regular season, hope you field a slightly above average team, then hope you get a hot goalie in the playoffs.

Same amount of playoff teams as the nba. Same exact format pretty much. Hockey is a team sport. Nba is a star sport. Goalie the most important spot in hockey. Anyways its good for sports. not good to know the heat will be in the finals every year.

Actually in soccer the regular season is not pointless. If you don't finish first you don't win anything because there are no playoffs.

It's great for the fans and I guess making money. Teams stay in the playoff hunt longer and that keeps fans interested longer into the season instead of half the teams being out at the mid way point of the season and no one giving a shit about them. Baseball should shorten the regular season and take on a NHL style playoffs.

baseball asks too much of a fan. have to sit through 4-6 hour games practically everyday for 6 months and in most cases the games mean jack as the division leaders win the pennant by multiple games. Thats why footballs king. every game counts and it only takes 1-2 days of your week

Home ice does mean something FYI. I don't get how it's a bad thing that upsets can happen. Why even make the playoffs when you know you can't win in the NBA. I think parity is great and makes for an entertaining playoffs.

i agree, there should be MUCH much bigger rewards for playoff seedings, like maybe a higher seed only has to win 3 games to advance, the lower seed has to win 4 or something like that

you would still have upsets, and you would still have drama, but the regular season would be less of a joke

they could figure it out if they wanted

Baseball games are very rarely 4-6 hours

A lot of games are 2:30-3 hours

Also a lot less scoring in hockey which increases variance
