2 MLB games played into at least the 18th inning tonight, which has left me wondering: Has that ever happened before? For all I know, this could have occurred last Wednesday, but I would have to think that an 18 inning game is quite rare; Rarer still for it to occur twice on the same evening. I would think at the very least it has been a long, long time. Anyway, if anybody has an answer, or can find out where to get one, please do inform.
18 Innings (X2)...Is this a first?

#4No kidding...And going, and going, and going....These types of games, I always find myself cheering for a new record, like the 43rd inning or something, just to say I saw it happen.
Damn...Hopin' the Rocks tie it up, purely for potential historical reasons.Comment -

#5Well when MLB allows you to play with mini softballs, you get this type of crap in Coors. They said they do it to speed up the game, seems to me this game is like 5 hours plus?

thats a very good point about the balls looker. i'm suprised the union hasn't disputed that yet on the players behalf.Comment -

#10And when you just set a box of new balls down in the dry air you get a 20-18 game that, if it took 18 innings to decide, would run well over the length of last night's contest. An extra inning contest is pretty rare, certainly not common, and using the time on such a long contest to argue that MLBs original intent is crap makes no sense.Originally posted by onlòókerWell when MLB allows you to play with mini softballs, you get this type of crap in Coors. #12ESPN states that according to the apparent bible in these matters (ie: the Elias Sports Bureau), it was indeed the first time in MLB history that 2 games went 18 innings on the same day...So a bit of historical nostalgia for those who are into...well, historical nostalgia (like myself).Comment -

#13Bit off topic here...but
My betting strategy is to NEVER play a team w/out a top notch closer to WIN.
Lidge's descent from a premier closer to a total SLUG in less than a year is simply unbelievable.
Must admit I did play the Houston to all three games against Pittsburgh to win. But only b/c of past performance record. Other than that, I've stayed away from Houston since mid May.Comment -

#15why in the hell does Garner continue to defend this guy anyways.Originally posted by Richy RichLidge's descent from a premier closer to a total SLUG in less than a year is simply unbelievable.
I'm sorry but whe you have an ERA of about 6, you just can't put a guy like that as your closer.Comment -

Mr. Big, ,
It seems Garner has finally wised up. He removed Lidge as his closer. Effective immediately.

#21They should speed up the games and declare the winner after nine innings no matter what the score is. The deciding factor should be errors. Whoever has the most errors in a tie game should be the winner. If there's a tie in both the score and the errors, then the team that takes the field must attempt to make an error or the other team gets the win.
Hell, taking a look at the astounding success of hockey, baseball should consider just letting the games end in ties.Comment -

#22They tried that, but it was in the allstar game. Now they have it determine what league gets homefield in the World Series. I could only imagine what they would come up with if they allowed regular games to end in ties.Originally posted by isetcapHell, taking a look at the astounding success of hockey, baseball should consider just letting the games end in ties.

#23Apparently it's fine to make a mockery of the game. How about after the ninth inning it just becomes a game of kickball?Originally posted by onlòókerThey tried that, but it was in the allstar game.
