OT: Where can I get carpet at a good discount if I rent a truck and pick it up?

Either a factory or a big distributor or a liquidator. I am down here in Mississippi, hard to find things like that here.
I need about 200 yards of good carpet (I have a wife to please).

yes Dalton would be your best bet.
or just call up Lowes, or HD and have them send a crew of illegals over to install it.
they do a good job of putting all the reputable companies out of business by subbing out to illegals that charge pennies on the dollar

yup, I would just call the national bitchez... they are going to be the most competitive or find an illegal to do it all.

Dalton is about a 7 hour drive from here. That would work.
I'm not hiring illegals. There is a flooring installation company not too far from my house, local people, been in business for years. I'm going to get them to do the work. I just got quotes on the carpet and the "good" carpet was $22.50 per square yard, which I thought was very high. That was without installation and with a piece of garbage carpet pad.
I'll check Dalton out. Thanks.

you should be able to find carpet outlets in just about any state. they are all over Ky.
I know here in Ky. carpet in very competitive, you can wheel-n-deal.
also check for builders supplies surplus type warehouses, they are big warehouses where you can find overstock of building supplies, and they are usually dirt cheap.

Are you the same louisvillekid that used to give such great MLB picks? One pick per day, day in, day out, mostly winners? Your avatar used to be a leprechaun?

Curious, just visit a home being built, there's always carpet laying around waiting to be installed. Duke a couple guys to run into the garage, they're never locked, and load it in the back of your truck. Don't forget to snag any tile you see laying around, people will pay a lot of money on Craigslist for that stuff. Anyhow, don't waste money on stuff that other people aren't smart enough to lock up.

glad to hear you want be hiring illegals to do it. Need more customers like you that value having quality work done by americans. I own a finish carpentry business so I dont have to compete with the illegals much but they are killing the tile/carpet/painters and framers.
$22 a yd had to be installed unless you are getting some high end carpet. might want to check with them again. However prices vary greatly from region to region.

This is why I detest the liberals. They like to talk about how "noble" and "moral" they are giving illegals "rights". But, these illegals 1) are not licensed, 2) pay zero tax, 3) pay zero workman's comp, 4) pay zero insurance, 5) don't have to worry about being sued (how would you find them, and if you get a judgment, they will just ignore it), 6) don't have to worry about honoring warranties, 7) provide no health insurance, paid vacations, sick days to their employees (also illegals).
So, legal American companies cannot compete because they have to do 1-7 and there is a cost to each of those items. So, the liberals "feel good" policy is driving American companies out of business. I say round the illegals up and send them all home, which is what every other country on the planet does.
I have traveled abroad extensively. Try being in someplace like Singapore without proper papers and you are not a citizen. Hell, you might disappear and never be heard from again. Or Turkmenistan, yeah, right, go to Turkmenistan as an illegal alien and see what happens to you. You'll end up working in a mine as a slave, if you are lucky. Or go to Mexico without proper documentation. See what they do to you if they catch you. If you are LUCKY they might deport you.

Great minds think alike, Pavy. JJ and I are just cut from the same cloth, that's why we became such fast friends. I appreciate an outside the box thinker like JJ, and he's got a great personality that translates very well onto the forum. I don't disagree that he would probably offer similar advice in this situation, but I think he'd be gratified to see someone else validate his approach.
JJ, am I infringing on your turf with this one? Just let me know, you've got seniority here and I respect that.
