who's the most famous person you have met?
outside of sports...unless they are super famous and wasn't just an autograph or whatever...

I'm half ashamed to admit the only one that comes to mind for me, is one of the old backstreet boys...

He used to live in my hometown, and I dated his cousin for about 6 months... He was at his/her grandmas house for thanksgiving......

oh, and I dated a girl in jr high that is now on KDKA news in pittsburgh

Peter Frampton, Ringo Starr, Richard Dreyfuss, Jack Bruce, and Joe Walsh. Played hoops with Magic Johnson, Muhsin Muhammad, and John Smoltz.

I forgot about a few I met in Vegas: Ben Affleck, James Woods, Doyle Brunson, and Daniel Negreanu.

Met then-VP elect Lyndon Johnson when he came to my grandfather's around Thanksgiving 1960, and sat with George Blanda at a TexMex restaurant for dinner in 1965. But my biggest thrill was sitting and chewing the fat for an hour with Gene Elston about 10 years ago. One of my boyhood idols and a man who was very responsible for turning me on to baseball.

I've been fortunate enough to meet a few.

I was 14 and working as a cashier in the local jams and jellies shop here in town when Joe Montana walked in the door. Talk about a soft-spoken guy, he shot the breeze with me for a minute or two and I had to turn down the music in the store to hear him well. Super nice guy, and apparently has a fondness for boysenberries. At that age, I don't think my feet touched the ground for a couple days at least.

Christopher Lloyd used to have a vacation home here, and I've had the good fortune to run into him at the bar twice when he was picking up take-out. Zero personality on that guy, doesn't chit-chat, doesn't smile, his head is on a swivel like he's watching for snipers, major paranoia issues.

I dated a guy who lived in the same subdivision as Danny Glover in Tigard, Oregon. He would wave to me and say hi if I was jogging by when he went out to get his mail or some such activity. Seemed like a nice guy but I never got to stop and talk with him.

Also in Portland, while I was driving limousines, I had the opportunity to drive for Neil Lomax when he threw his brother's bachelor party. Neil Lomax was huge for Portland State football back in the day, and I think he spent a few years as a QB with the Seahawks. Major drinker, he was already staggering when he got into the car, and super loud. You'd think he was calling plays in the huddle with how loud he talks to everyone. Obviously he thinks his star shines brighter than it really does, he really takes it personally when people don't recognize his name.

Mike Holmgren likes to stay at one of the seaside inns here, I've had the privildge of shaking his hand, but nothing more. He's beefier than I expected, very firm handshake, I wouldn't want to piss him off.

Finally I got to meet Jerry Rice and his wife at the Circuit City in Oakland Hills. One of my close buddies was working in the car stereo department as an installer and I stopped by to talk with him, and he just introduces me to "Mr. Rice" like it was nothing. Jerry didn't talk to me, as he was busy explaining the problem with his car's DVD player that brought him in. His wife made small talk with me though, she's a real sweetheart, extremely family oriented, I got to hear all about their kids.

That's the extent of my celebrity experiences, it was rather fun recalling them all though. Thanks for the impetus, Archie.

Marion Butts, used to be RB for the Chargers. he is from a town close by and after he retired built a house in one of our affluent golf course subdivisions. I trimmed his house, real nice house. front door cost upwards of 15K was a little nervous having to drill holes in it to install the door knob. super nice guy though.

Met Hank Jr/ Lynyrd Skynyrd when I was about 14. I got a temp job being a roady for them when they came to town. that was when Hank was still drinking and he was fubarred the entire time, couldnt understand a word he said or sang that night

Regarding sports or entertainment figures, by "met" I assume you mean more getting them to sign an autograph. If it's just an autograph, then I "met" Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Phil Rizzuto, Gene Hermansky (old Brooklyn Dodgers, Archie Moore (great boxer) etc. Was a fanatic Yanks fans as a kid, got the names at Yankee Stadium, also a boxing fan where I got Moore's, but later did talk for a while with The Mongoose when he lived in San Diego.

Met and talked to for a while: Miss Universe of the late '80s, from Mexico. Up close a very ordinary looking girl, no great beauty. Laz Barrera, Hall of Fame thoroughbred trainer. Willie Shoemaker. Other top California horse trainers 7 riders, in a professional capacity.

When I was a kid used to drink with folk singer Dave Van Ronk, in New York. Knew Paul Quinchette (if I spelled it right), who used to play with the Woody Herman band. Ditto Odetta, slightly, who just died.

All this dates me a bit, but that the way the hours crumble . . .
