I am so sick and tired of seeing "100% Lock of the Century" & "All In 100% Lock!"

Half of the time these picks don't even hit. I can't say that I am one that is actually taking this advice to try and benefit myself but im sure there are people in here that do. This is a forum to help eachother not send people down a dark road. There are no locks in sports so don't call it. The best we can do is evaluate the information we have at hand and make the best educated opinion on the outcome as possible. Dont EVER call a game a lock though, because NOTHING is a lock!

I agree with that, it's just aggravating to see people who think they know everything about every sport, they call a lock and their team gets beat by 20 points

i agree, but what about a mortal lock? i will not listen to anyone that says lock of the century, or all in 100% lock, but if it's a mortal lock, then you have to do it..

nothing is bigger than a mortal lock..it's not just a lock, it's a freaking mortal lock..

a regular lock, i can understand.. but a mortal lock??? mortals are big.. a mortal lock is more powerful than just a regular lock.. it's freakin mortal..

Ha, I know, it is sad everytime I see Corky say "5 Star Mortal lock" Unreal, I don't read the threads so I don't know if they win or lose but I know they all don't win. It is just absurd all the Guarantee Locks that people put on the board.

JRS, it makes for good reading material anyway...Interesting to see the written reactions ìn Lock threads. In any event, if somebody is basing their wager on a complete stranger`s declaration that the game in question is a LOCK, then they definitely need to find a new hobby.....

There is no such thing as a lock. Anybody who has been around knows that. I just do it for the no handicapping phucks that troll around looking for FREE plays.

Nicky, that was really kind of you. I don't mean to use obscure words in my posts, they just come out without me really thinking about it.

Anyhow, to answer your question, I believe that when Uncle Richie posts a mortal lock, he's using it in the original sense of the Latin word "mortis", which just means death. So when he says "Mortal Lock", I read it to mean a "Dead-On Pick". You know, when someone says "I know this matchup dead to rights!" I'm of the opinion that he feels that he's got the line nailed cold, and so to imply a life-or-death call on the game is his way of saying that it's as strong a feeling on a game as he could have.

Guys, these locks are just nothing more than someone who loves gambling imparting to us that they have a great feeling on a bet. We're all granted free-will by our Creator, and so we have to take responsibility for evaluating not only the pick itself but the person giving it. Stop ragging on people who share their picks with feeling and intensity, it's part of what makes our social circle unique.

Nah Nicky, I've just got a Bachelor's in Philosophy from Oregon State. If you're wondering where I got my particular style for stringing together words, it's actually from what I did after college. I studied Philosophy because my plans were to become a Catholic priest. I entered Mount Angel Abbey as a novice monk and immediately took all the classes at their seminary on homiletics, which is how to preach and deliver sermons.

As time passed, I found that I needed more excitement in my life so I bounced from job to job, but I've always enjoyed having a little action on the games for the rush. I've been very fortunate to have the discipline to always keep my wager size small and manageable, just enough to afford me the sense of risk without the chance of ruin.

So posting here fulfills two interests in my life, the desire to discuss gambling, and the enjoyment of putting what I learned in the seminary to some use. I don't want to preach to anyone, but I love putting across my thoughts through my writing. Hopefully I don't make anyone uncomfortable with the size of my posts or the words I choose, I'm just relating things as I think of them. I enjoy you all, and feel that SBR is a valuable part of my life.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to explain my background a little, Nicky. You're one in a million, with your experience, your insight, and your ability to explain yourself so that everyone feels comfortable. I hope to continue learning from you as time passes, and maybe one day I can buy you dinner and express my gratitude for all you do here.
