Is Doc Rivers a good coach now?
Two years ago when the Celtics were the worst team in the league, everybody was calling for Rivers to be fired. People said he was the worst coach in the league.

Last year up until the Celtics won the Finals, people were saying it was coaching that was gonna cost the Celtics the title.

This year I haven't read one bad thing about Rivers. It's hard to argue with what the Celtics have done.

So, is Doc Rivers a good coach now?

Amazingly, if the Celtics win another title this year I think he's gonna go down as one of the Celtics' great coaches. Imagine people saying THIS in the future:

"Red Auerbach, Bill Russel, Tom Heinsohn, KC Jones, DOC RIVERS"

I never thought that Rivers would be named alongside the greatest coaches in Celtics' history but if the Celtics win the title this year, do you know what the quote above will be the answer to?

Name the only Celtics coaches in history to win 2 titles.

If this current Celtics team can win 3 titles with Rivers as coach it will be Rivers and Auerbach standing alone as the only Celtics coaches to win 3 titles.

Doc Rivers was a good coach before with Orlando. In fact didn't he win coach of the year with them?

The Lakers were 32-50 the year before he rejoined them. They made the playoffs the year he rejoined them.

Nobody can tell for sure if someone is a "good coach", people should just say...

"is Doc Rivers a coach that I think is good because he is benefiting from have all star players?"

If thats the question, the answer is yes...

                              How quickly people forget:

From the owner to the GM to the coach to the media, Bill Simmons wants to know why he's the only one not drinking the Celtics' Kool-Aid.

Anyone can win with 3 HoFers on the team. Check his head coaching record with the Clippers.

Byron Scott is a far better coach. Took the Nets to the finals B2B seasons. After they fired him, nothing.

He was also the head coach when the LAL with Shaq and Kobe quit and lost to a lesser Detroit team with no super stars

The next year they quit vs SA

Quit and lost last year again by 50 points to Bos

Phil is old and overrated and frankly the man is fukking trash

I used to think Phil was overrated but not now.

Yeah he had Shaq & Kobe when he won 3 straight titles but so did Del Harris. Yet Del couldnt even make the finals with the same talent.

Same thing with the Bulls. Doug Collins couldnt win with Jordan & Pippen.....yet Phil won 6 titles with the same talent.

Phil is great at taking talented but underachieving teams over the hump. But he proved to me in the past few years that hes a great coach by taking the Lakers to the playoffs and the finals with just one star.

in 1997 or so i met doc rivers at a restaraunt when iw as in college in san antonio and he was on the spurs i think

he was there with his kid, the kid who went on to play at gtown

                                          nice guy, friendly

therefore, he must be a good coach

Now that the Celtics look terrible (note this thread was posted at the height of their success), the tide of public opinion will turn on Doc.

Let's remember this was just a couple years ago:
