The movie The Spirit - let me say this:
It has nothing to do with Sin City.

I saw it on the weekend kind of by accident. I was supposed to be going to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button but I somehow managed to go to the wrong theater. Not the first time I have done that.

Anyway we had to choose from what was available. I had seen the advertising for The Spirit but had not seen any reviews or discussion. It looked kind of like Sin City - which I really liked. It had some of the same people behind it. So I said, "Well okay, let's give it a shot."

So here's the key point: it is not like Sin City.

Don't go to the Spirit thinking you are in for a Sin City-like experience.

The Spirit is for a different audience. I could cut it up pretty bad but, hey, there are probably people here who would like it. I found it very, very silly and the dialogue was painful in parts and the acting was bizarrely uneven (like, you know, any particular reason you didn't cast someone who could act in the title role?) But maybe to the comic book crowd it is an important film. I don't know.

My point is, other than a few similar visual effects, it is nothing like Sin City. So don't go to it thinking that.

That is me playing my trusty 12-string Rosie, at Hugh's Room in Toronto. It was during an addictions training workshop that tomcast was doing. I was asked to play a few tunes while people were settling in and during breaks.

Lemme see if I know how to do this . . .

What? Are you trying to rub it in? That's what I was trying to do but I screwed up, okay????

No, seriously, I don't know how I screw up like that. For a guy who makes his living with numbers in a field where accuracy is everything, I make a bizarrely high number of errors programming my VCR too.

Anyway, I definitely owe my date another movie after dragging her out to that. Silly as the The Spirit was to me, it is even less a chick movie.

I hear the opposite...haven't seen it but I was told it was painfully long and boring and not worth my time or money. Who knows though....

It's probably one of those snobby, critic type movies. I believe one of the Bens from At The Movies (Ben Lyons???) called it the best movie of the year.

I often like those kinds of movies where mood and sub-text play a big role. But not everyone does.

The other Ben (Mankiewicz ??) named The Wrestler as his best movie of the year so far. I'd also like to see that.

Does Scarlett show any boobage in the movie?

This was a press photo for the movie from a few weeks ago

it is long but the time flys by. Listen I dont know your taste in movies but I found the plot intersting. it reminded me a little of Forrest Gump. by that I mean the different events in the passage of time. i also left the theatre thankful that we age the way we do and not backwards. both me and Mrs happy liked it.

No boobage of any kind. There is a quick shot of Eva Mendez' butt however it looks "stylized" (basically air-brushed). She (Mendez) actually looks pretty chunky in her clothes in some scenes.

Scarlett Johansson is awful IMO. So bad it is embarrassing. I have never been impressed with her acting. I don't actually find her that crazy hot either however if she wants to get nekkid, I will take a look.

Doesn't happen in this film though.
