Richkas, I'm sure its nothing personal, but gamblers - myself included - tend to be like pissed off bears when having a bad day/month/year etc.

After a full day getting the snot kicked out of me with my wagers the last thing I want to read about are stupid *lock* threads.

I also think that sometimes words are misinterpreted when in a bad mood, sometimes the original poster meant something and it was not understood that way by someone else and shit starts to fly.

For the most part they guys here are pretty cool.

If you don't take things too seriously you'll be fine.

I think there are a few issues at play keeping SBR from being a kinder, more cordial place.

First, interacting with people on a forum is a very impersonal relationship by its very nature. It's so easy to take pot shots at people without any of the social repercussions of poor behavior. Those of us who look at SBR as a community are very much in the minority. Even myself, it took months of posting here for me to feel a sense of responsibility to promote the best interests of our group as a whole. Since people can join for free and with equal status to established posters, they have no incentive to behave and learn our culture and personalities before being granted SBR citizenship.

Secondly, the very psychological profile of gamblers is very unstable and overly emotional. People ride the roller coaster of their wagers, and when things go sour, they take advantage of the impersonal medium to vent their frustrations. In essence it's like joining a cigar club and complaining that every person is constantly smoking. Sadly, this is the society in which we choose to socialize, and we can only change ourselves and hope that others will be inspired to do the same.

Third, the very nature of SBR's dedication to free speech is both its greatest blessing and largest curse. We all enjoy the freedom to discuss whatever we have on our minds, sometimes at the expense of others' sensibilities. The majority rules on major issues, but on minor ones, all opinions are heard/read with equal weight. It allows us to be ourselves, which is why such great friendships can form here, but it also leaves us extraordinarily vulnerable.
