          lower paid players are hungrier and they play harder to get better contracts. playing harder usually equates into team success

                    Coaching had little to do the Yankees not making the playoffs. Jeter's ground ball rate of 60% or last in the majors had more to do with it. I guess you could blame part of that on Girardi for batting him in front of two of the best OBP guys in the league, though.

                              That, and being one of the worst defensive shortstops in the history of MLB has something to do with it as well.
