How will new CFB rule changes affect your capping?

The new rules changes in college football have me pretty concerned. I like to look at previous years totals and results when picking games, but I also like betting total.

Will these new changes make that big a deal on totals? Or will the oddsmakers adjust the lines to them?

This is a great point. I have no idea just how much of an affect lowering the tee by one inch will have on kick distance but I will say this:

If there are more kickoff returns (which it seems inevitable that there will be), there will very obviously be more scoring in games. Teams will have a shorter field to traverse which will lead to more scoring. There will be more opportunities for turnovers which will lead to more scoring. There will be more kickoff return touchdowns which will lead to more scoring.

Another significant factor to take into account is that in games where the offenses are stronger than the defenses, the effect will be magnified because these types of games will experience more scoring leading to more kickoffs leading to more scoring!

Pairing this with the majority of the other rule changes which are blatantly designed to shorten the length of the game, I would suggest looking for softness in the totals, especially for the over.

That's well said...I would expect a lot more 45-35 scores in games between passing oriented teams whose total used to be 57.5 and will now be recalibrated to 64 and ratchet up as these results become expected.

To answer the question about changes to handicapping, I'll be less afraid to lay a number when one team has the other out-athleted because nowhere are the weak athletic links as vulneralbe as they are on KOR's.
