#4Glad to see you again, Hoopster. I really identified with your retirement post and felt for your situation. It's so easy to lose all perspective on here, dealing with personality types that you normally wouldn't associate with, feeling oddly vulnerable in a place where you actually have very little exposure. It reminds me of a reference from Hamlet, in which the title character is actually directing a stage performance, and addressing the cast of his production.
As director, he expounds the "purpose of playing (a part on stage)," which, from the invention of theater, has been "to hold the mirror up to nature; to show virtue her feature, scorn her own image, and the very age and body of the time his form and pressure." What we have on SBR is little removed from the stage of Shakespeare's day, with many people playing the characters that they create for themselves. The drama we allow ourselves to become engaged by is a form of truth, not mere entertainment.
I hope you can find the ability to look at this all as a tapestry, woven by the extemporaneous conversations of a very diverse (and yet, strikingly similar), twisted and flawed cast of players. It's a huge canvas, and the only way to take it in without being overwhelmed is to take a few steps back and gaze at it with appreciation and dispassion. That you might inculcate these thoughts when you join us here is my fondest Holiday wish for you.
Again, welcome back and many happy returns. References to Hamlet, Act 3, Scene 2, by William Shakespeare.Originally posted by StraitShooter90% of the guys dont give a shit about your problems..and the other 10 are glad you have them..Comment -

#6Casper, I don't know Hoopster that well, and I've seen him go off on some posters, but I sense good things in him. It takes a dose of humility to take a break from this place and examine one's own motives and shortcomings. It seemed quite fitting to welcome him back in a spirit of friendship and hope that some good vibes upon his return would soften his heart and encourage his thoughtfulness. Besides, it's the Holidays, and those who return to us after an absense should always be shown a warm welcome.Originally posted by StraitShooter90% of the guys dont give a shit about your problems..and the other 10 are glad you have them..Comment -
