As a cardinals fan, I can honestly say that without Motte, our pen is in the bottom 5 in the league. Even with Motte it's in the bottom half.

Pittsburgh's bullpen has the lowest BAA at (.215) and have the 2nd lowest bullpen ERA right after the Giants. They've been impressive to say the least.

the pirate really have worked the bullpen well the last couple of years. they took advantage of the red sox management by trading hanrahan(who overrated the closer role) for a few players including melancon. when boston freaked out over melancon having a bad start of the season last year, he was easy to get.

melancon has been an interested trade piece. boston overpaid for him by giving up jed lowrie and another player, then undervalued him and 3 other guys for a closer.

they need to trade 36 year old grilli while his value is this high if they can fleece another team.
