#2If the cowboys are letting the ravens score, then how would they recover an onside kick?
Wouldn't they be receiving or do you think the Ravens would onside kick after they scored?

#5They were down by 2 points. If Ravens get a first down the game is over because they can run out the clock. By letting them score they hope to get the ball back then score a TD and try an onside kick. If they recover the onside kick they can win the game with a field goal.Comment -

#7i dont know why more teams dont do this. not in this exact situation but say you are down 1 ... why not just let them score knowing you will get the ball back down 8, the odds of you scoring and converting the 2pt conversion are better than the odds of them fumbling the ball. very few rbs would do what brian westbrook did last seasonComment -

#8Agreed. I heard a few announcers arguing about this last year; the play-by-play guy was stating your argument, but of course the ex-athlete was talking about pride, you never give up free points, blah blah blah.Originally posted by madmaxxi dont know why more teams dont do this. not in this exact situation but say you are down 1 ... why not just let them score knowing you will get the ball back down 8, the odds of you scoring and converting the 2pt conversion are better than the odds of them fumbling the ball. very few rbs would do what brian westbrook did last season
Down 1 it seems like an easy call to me.
Would you consider letting the other team score when the game is tied? Say you haven't blocked a FG all year, and you are staring at a can't-miss type kicker. Opponent inside the 10 yard line, its just a chip shot for this guy. Do you let them run the clock out to 3 seconds and kick the game winner, or let them score and give yourself a chance to force OT with a TD?Comment -

#9thats a tough one...i dont think you can really let them score in a tie game though because even without the block theres a chance of a bad snap or just an awful kickComment -

#10True, but say you are the Colts, what situation would you rather be in;Originally posted by madmaxxthats a tough one...i dont think you can really let them score in a tie game though because even without the block theres a chance of a bad snap or just an awful kick
Down 7 with 1:30 left to go with the ball,
or
Tied with 0:03 left to go, opponent has the ball on your 5 yard line?Comment -

#11yep, let them score ... it would be an extra point and what % of xp's are missed in the nfl, has to be less than 1% easily. we are agreeing way too much this morning if you told me you watched the WWE PPV last sunday and was pissed that orton jobbed but pumped when hardy one its going to be a strange dayComment -

#12Pavy was 100% right. With the Ravens being in position to run out the clock, the Cowboys' only chance of winning the game was letting Ravens score, then scoring and recovering onside kick. Sure, chances are slim, but better to have a slim chance than NO chance.
If I were the Ravens in the position they were in, I would just go down as soon as a first down is made and not even continure into end zone. Westbrook had the smarts to do that for the Eagles a few years ago, going to his knee instead of scoring an uncontested TD.Comment -

#13Actually it was westbrooks guard forgot his name that told him to not score. He was screaming it the whole time the play was going on...Comment -

#14Right, u would just fall down. Pavy needed to make it clear who was kicking the onside kick. He made it sound like the ravens were. The Cowboys weren't trying to let hem score though, they still had their timeouts. That's a big difference. They didn't have anyone at the second level and Ken Hamlin just flat out missed the tackle.Originally posted by LT ProfitsPavy was 100% right.
