The ongoing snowstorm has stopped flights from landing or leaving at McCarran International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
"No planes are departing for Las Vegas from anywhere in the U.S. right now," said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.

Gregor said the airport doesn't have snow removal or deicing equipment, which means there's no way for snow-covered planes to leave safely.
"The forecast is not looking particularly promising for anybody who wants to fly into Las Vegas," he said.

An unusual combination of subtropical moisture and cold...
northerly... low level air has produced a rare snowstorm across the
lower elevations of the Mohave desert... including the Las Vegas
Valley. This snowstorm will produce significant impacts to the Las
Vegas Valley as 3 to 6 inches of snow are likely at most locations
including the Las Vegas strip. Higher amounts are possible...
particularly across the western portions of the valley where total
accumulations of up to 10 inches are forecast.

The snow began to fall across much of the Las Vegas Valley early
Wednesday afternoon and will continue throughout the overnight
hours. This will likely be the biggest snowstorm to impact Las Vegas
since 1979... when 7.8 inches of snow was measured at McCarran
International Airport.

Snow removal equipment is extremely limited in the Las Vegas Valley
and the effects from this storm will likely linger into Thursday.
Temperatures quickly rebound in many instances following snow in the
lower deserts. This will not be the case on Thursday... as the
temperature will not climb out of the 30s.

Elsewhere across the lower deserts... above 2000 feet... snowfall of 6
to 18 inches is expected.

i rememeber 2 years ago the packers and seahawks played in a blizzard in Seattle, Vegas is MUCH more rare

you can't be more than 5 hours from Vegas right Illini? They closed I-15 anyway, so you couldn't get there tonight if you tried, even the airport is closed

I live in Henderson, and we already got 5 inches of snow. And it is still coming down, and is suppose to continue to 6am. My mustang got stuck in my complex, and I had to get pushed started to get moving. And just parked it in a handicap spot.

I refuse to drive there, never understood why anyone would. I am only a 57 minute plane ride to Las Vegas. I will be there the 27th for the fight.

It took me 2 hours to get home, that usually takes 15 minutes. Some schools are already calling it a snow day tomorrow. Strange to hear that in Vegas.

I work maintenance in a local casino.

The casino I work at has been removing slot/video poker machines due to low play. I hear it was so they don't have to pay taxes on them. Because they aren't getting enough return in play to cover the taxes or show a profit on them. So they remove them.
