    All fish called trout are members of the subfamily Salmonidae. The name is commonly used for species in three of the seven genera in the sub-family: Salmo, Atlantic species; Salvelinus, which includes fish also sometimes called char or charr; and Pacific species, Oncorhynchus. Fish referred to as trout include:

    * Genus Salmo
    o Adriatic trout, Salmo obtusirostris
    o Brown trout, Salmo trutta
    o Flathead trout, Salmo platycephalus
    o Marmorata, Soca River trout or Soca trout - Salmo trutta marmoratus
    o Ohrid trout, Salmo letnica
    o Sevan trout, Salmo ischchan

    * Genus Oncorhynchus
    o Apache trout, Oncorhynchus Apache
    o Eskimo trout, Oncorhynchus inupiat[verification needed]
    o Seema, Oncorhynchus masou
    o Cutthroat trout, Oncorhynchus clarki
    The cutthroat trout has 14 recognized subspecies (depending on your sources), such as the Lahontan cutthroat trout, Oncorhynchus clarki henshawi, Bonneville cutthroat trout, Oncorhynchus clarki utah, Colorado River cutthroat trout, Yellowstone cutthroat trout.
    o Gila trout, Oncorhynchus gilae
    o Golden trout, Oncorhynchus aguabonita
    o Rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss
    o Mexican Golden Trout, Oncorhynchus chrysogaster and as many as eight other species or sub-species in northwest Mexico, not yet formally named.

    * Genus Salvelinus (Char)
    o Arctic char, Salvelinus alpinus
    o Aurora trout, Salvelinus fontinalis timagamiensis
    o Brook trout, Salvelinus fontinalis
    o Bull trout, Salvelinus confluentus
    o Dolly Varden trout, Salvelinus malma
    o Lake trout, Salvelinus namaycush
    o Silver trout, † Salvelinus fontinalis agassizi (extinct)

      Ain't nothing better than a rainbow trout, lightly breaded with cornmeal and fried in bacon drippings.

          You're covering up the flavour with all that extra stuff Willie.

          Trout is best served baked, with a squirt of lemon juice and a sprinkle of salt/pepper, tasty, nutritious and good for you.

          Willie, I have a nice spot that I've been fishing for years every spring when the trout season opens, always get my limit (6).
          These are smaller fish I catch - about a lb each, from a spring fed creek/pond.

          It's about an hours drive northwest of the city.

            Don't know why, but I've never really liked any fish baked. Either fry it or grill it is my preference. Wish there was a spot nearer here to fish for good rainbow's. We used to go to Ruidoso in the summer and fish for them there, loved those summers.

              Nicky and JJGold were walking along the road one day when they saw a guy carrying a really big fish in his hands.

              So JJ walks up to the guy and says "Hey you fuck, that fucking fish would fucking feed me for a fucking week -how the fucking fuck did you catch that fucking fish?"

              The guy turns round and says "Sure I'll tell you. This is a trout - you just hang over a bridge with your arms in the water and twiddle your fingers around. Then the trout will just swim into your hands because they like the feel of it. Then you grab it and toss it onto the bridge and you've got the catch of the day".

              So Nicky and JJ went off to the nearest bridge and JJ took Nicky the ankles and hung him over the bridge. They were there for five hours when there was a shout from Nicky:

              "QUICK JJ PULL ME UP. THERES A FUCKIN’ TRAIN COMING"

                    Grilled is excellent too, I try to avoid fried foods nowadays, it tastes good fried but it really isn't good for ya.

                      Trout are usually found in cool (50-60°F, 10-15°C), clear streams and lakes, although many of the species have anadromous strains as well. Young trout are referred to as troutlet or troutling. They are distributed naturally throughout North America, northern Asia and Europe and England . Several species of trout were introduced to Australia and New Zealand by amateur fishing enthusiasts in the 19th century, effectively displacing and endangering several upland native fish species. The introduced species included brown trout from England and rainbow trout from California. The rainbow trout were a steelhead strain, generally accepted as coming from Sonoma Creek. The rainbow trout of New Zealand still show the steelhead tendency to run up rivers in winter to spawn.[1] The speckled trout, found in the Gulf of Mexico and other places in the United States, is not in fact a trout at all, but a member of the drum family.

                            Actually the tech term for trout originates from the Aborginees in New Zealand. When the leader of the tribe would go off into the wild and gather young virgins for sexual sacrifice, he would yell out "Oncorhynchus mykiss". This translated to English means "come out come out wherever you are". Unfortunately for the tribesman, they had bad sight, but great smell. The virginal women, who did not want to be part of this sexual ritual were known to put trout down their loincloths in hopes that the smell would deter the tribesman from picking them for the sexual escapades. This has continued over the years to the point that most men find the smell of fish in a girls nether region to be distasteful.

                                Why's that, JJ? I've been a fisherman ever since I could tie my shoes. Nothing like rockfishing, getting plastered while the waves crash around you, catching fresh cabazon and lingcod. Definitely cuts down on the grocery bills.
