They just signed Furcal which means they can move Escobar in a deal to SD. That's who they wanted in earlier trade talks with Khalil Greene skipping town .

    very possible

I saw early today that if they can't move yunel then furcal can play 2nd and kelly johnson moves to left...

thatd be a stacked in field...

They won't trade Escobar. Furcal is fragile.

They would move Kelly Johnson to left? I don't think he hits enough for that to be a positive. Their outfield really doesn't hit as it is now.

Pavy, is Roger McDowell still the pitching coach in Atlanta?

I could see them using Kelly Johnson all over the place; he's got more going for him at the plate than a third of Houston's outfield did last season.

I think he is coming back.

Atlanta Braves Executive Vice President and General Manager Frank Wren and Manager Bobby Cox announced today that all six members of the Club’s Major League coaching staff will return in the same role in 2009.

“I believe our staff has done a great job and I’m extremely excited that all of the coaches will be back in 2009,” Cox said. “Each of the coaches works extremely hard and they are great communicators. The entire staff is very dedicated.”

Returning for 2009 will be bench coach Chino Cadahia, first base coach Glenn Hubbard, pitching coach Roger McDowell, hitting coach Terry Pendleton, bullpen coach Eddie Perez and third base coach Brian Snitker.

Hubbard is completing his 10th season on Cox’s staff, while Pendleton is completing his seventh campaign and McDowell finishes his third season with the Braves. Cadahia, Perez and Snitker are each wrapping up their second season on the staff.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Braves have agreed to terms with Rafael Furcal on a three-year contract.
According to Rosenthal the deal includes a vesting fourth-year option, but is worth less than the four-year, $40 million deal offered by the A's. Rosenthal speculates that Furcal "would play shortstop or second base for the Braves, depending upon which other moves the team makes," which suggests that Atlanta will be moving either Yunel Escobar or Kelly Johnson. that makes it sound like either yunel or kelly will be traded... I'm hoping kelly... for obvious reasons

I seriously doubt we get rid of Esco. Kelly is a royal pain in the ass every year. His frequent slumps, he's no longer patient at the plate like he used to be, and he always makes some horrible untimely errors that send the whole team into a downfall(look at the pop fly he missed in the bottom of the 9th against Philly that cost us a needed win and would have been 2.5 games back or something like that playing well. We lost around 6 straight after that and there was our season). Not to mention that he can't play left field as it is. The reason he moved to 2nd from left in the first place is because of shoulder problems, so that is basically out. Prado and Infante can fill the gaps easy. Infante absolutely has to get more playing time and can also play outfield (very good in case Francoeur can't turn it around), and Prado is a solid backup utillity infielder. Kelly doesn't really have any place on this team anymore. Esco is a solid .300 hitter with improving power and great defense, and we need a power bat in LF, not an up and down average and mediocre power hitter in Kelly. Not to mention when Escobar and Kelly were platooning at 2nd in 2007, Escobar was a way better fielder/hitter, and Kelly was the one throwing a temper tantrum because he wasn't getting many at-bats deservingly.

I don't think Peavy has anything to do with this. I'm thinking more of something with the Pirates or Royals. Wren apparently has a few trades he's working on. The bidding for the Japanese starter looks likes it's going to be way too expensive to be valuable, so I think it will be a starter we're going after rather than a LFer right now. Or possibly both, who knows. A lot of people say we don't have a shot at Grienke but he doesn't have many guaranteed years left(although cheaper), so people saying the asking price is as much as Peavy are retarded. The Royals would love to have Johnson. He could really fill a need for them
