I've never really had any problems, people know me... there are only 6 white people in this neighborhood of 45,000 so I kinda stand out.... they know I work with the kids and help to better the community.

At first everyone assumed I was working undercover...and the police still pull me over at least once a month driving or walking around, because I fit the profile of a drug buyer.

Things are rough, but it is only 1 percent of the population making it dangergous for the other 99 percent. Most people are very nice
But you have to be smart too. But if you know how to conduct yourself you'll be fine. But you do see alot of crazy stuff here.

But carrying a camera, and video taping strangers IS a pretty dumb thing to do. I took a risk there, My man behind the counter, Henry, I don't think he was too pleased with me bringing the camera in.. I had to smooth things over afterwards.

wow, rogue you know your stuff, Steel Reserve is big, old english is big, and schlitz as well..but i'm not sure if they have the bull ice kind... I'll have to do a more indepth search at the bigger liquor store 2 blocks down.

we have 104 liquor stores, 1 grocery store, 1 bank, 14 currency exchanges and 1 sit down restaurant in this neighbhorhood...

Oh and 150+ churches, 50+ beauty supply shops, 1 gas station

only been to hawthorne once.. not into horses that much... wait, that is the one on Cicero right?


back in the 90's you needed to "pay" a neighborhood kid to "watch" your car and make sure nothing happened to it while you were at the game. They are tearing all the projects down, which makes things more rough. All the former project dwellers go to different bad west side and southside neighborhoods and start all new gang/turf wars.


Gun shots a few times a week, only actually witnessed shooting 3 times.

for the first year since I moved here, crime didn't decline..went sharply up again this year...things are rough, now with the bad economy, everything is getting stolen...big thing is stealing the catalytic converters and selling to middle men for the various precious metals inside.


have about 3 vid cam flashing light cop boxes within 4 blocks either way.
