    Question about Odds
Hey guys I'm new to this stuff just a quick inquiry here for you today,

Does 3/1 Odds mean lose 3 win 1?

Does 3 : 1 Odds mean the same thing ?

Also, if I were to bet $1,000 on 3/1 odds proposition, would that mean I get $3,000 for winning?

Would betting $1,000 on 3:1 also mean $3,000 back?

I know this stuff is pretty simple but I don't know anybody who bets sports to ask for their help

3:1 means you bet $100 and are paid out $400 ($300+your initial $100)

1:3 means you risk $300 to win $100.

3:1 is the same as 3/1

1:3 is the same as 1/3

      Hi Eric,

3:1 is another way of writing 3/1. If you're familiar with American odds, SBR Forum offers a free odds converter.

To answer your question, yes betting $1,000 on 3:1, +300, 3/1, each would return $3,000 in winnings (you also get your initial $1000 back).

Alright guys thanks for the quick response,

        So if I bet $1,000 on a 3/1 I recieve $4,000

        Betting $1,000 on a 1/3 I get back $2,000

Essentially we just multiply our bet by the first number? What happens in the case of say,

        $1,000 on a 7/3 ?

Multiply by 7 and then divide by 3

Also wondering, consider 4 trials of those bets -

            $1,000 on a 3/1

            I lose $1,000 3 Times = - $3,000

            I win one time out of 4 = + $4,000

            $1,000 on a 1/3

            I lose one time = - $1,000

            I win three times = + $6,000

It just dosen't seem fair to me because its not balanced... betting the 1/3 is always
the better bet over time. You'd think it would be even over time?

You win 3 times you only win $1,000.
Risking $1,000 on it, each win pays out $333.33.

Ahh i see my problem here lol

1:3 means you risk $300 to win $100.

I skimmed over that in your first post :0
