To those who think Spring Training is meaningless....
Is Matt Harvey's performance this afternoon meaningless.
He was near 100 on the slow gun, hitting every spot............

    Pitching Stats

PITCHER IP PC H ER BB K
    Harvey 4.1 43 0 0 0 5
    Feliciano 0.2 2 0 0 0 0
    Edgin 1.0 15 1 0 0 1

    stats are meaningless

100 mph is excellent but not if its straight

i doubt he can do that same performance in a regular season game

      Matt Harvey is beyond legit.
But as far as the heat being straight, I said the same thing when Timmy made his first ever big league start against Philly.
Howard hit one to Pluto in his debut.

In response, no, Harvey's cheese was moving.

Jury is in on Harvey, if Wheeler can develop, Mets will be relevant in 2014. (providing they spend to upgrade their outfield)

              1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Harvey_(baseball)

              2) I only had nine serious interested players. I want 3 more, but I'm going to beg every day

met fan here we need an outfield upgrade for sure and i would look more to 2015 for being relevant atl philly and washington are going to be hard to pass if there arent any serious injuries to any of those teams

So, you're saying he is another Rodrigo Lopez?

Remember him a few years back and his spring?

Lopez was hitting high 90's--- had a 4.3K/BB ratio, then blew up in the regular season with an ERA over 5.60.

And then there was Ricky Nolasco.

He threw something like 25 innings, walking just one hitter, and had an ERA of something like 1.28, he ended the year with an ERA approaching 5, giving up something like 1.6 HRs/9 IP.

Sorry, I just don't put much stock into spring numbers. You can't isolate 25 ABs and think they predict anything, and you can't look at 20 IP and think it will carry over to the regular season. Guys start breaking own in late August, they get overworked, and there is nothing in spring training that can predict that.

Ive been saying the mets may stink but the pitching they have is really good.
Harvey is a shade behind Strausberg Ive said that many times now. Niese is a
solid starter Gee was coming into his own Wheeler will match Harvey step for step
the question marks the Mets have are the vet starters Nohan an Marcum.
Oh they have no hitting and the worse owners in the game also.

There's been some serious flame throwers and if they don't develop a great secondary pitch, they only last for so long. Harvey have a good change up?

The point is what you do on scrimmage games or spring training games doesn't have any effect on how you perform on game day.
