People need to separate the thought of SBR as a business and the forum. SBR gets clicks and page views because of the people who come here just for points, they make SBR ad money. I didn't mean for the charitable issues themselves. But I thought basically everyone knew that its tough to verify charitable donations (especially of goods), so it is sometimes assumed you are trying to take a shot. If it only saves you $1,000, is it really worth it if it may bring light to other, maybe questionable deductions, that save you far more money?

I just know my Dad has always taken less than the max deduction on charitable donations, even though it's well over 5k, because he didn't feel the couple hundred bucks saved was worth getting an audit over.

the only real big deduction on schedule A that will never need any proof (other than a blank slip) is non-cash donations.
