over the years i'm sure we have always seen some real doosies, but what was the absolutly the weirdest one you can remember.

i think the shaq/kobe handshake before the game has to be the weirdest one i've seen.

Calvin Ayre still owes me $550 from that prop.

A remember last winter pinnacle had bets on average real estate prices all over the country, and my mom helped me get a winner betting on Alexandria, VA over.

I still like the recent hotdog-eating over/under prop.

"Player must eat for action"...That stipulation still causes me to chuckle softly now and then.

longbets is an interesting site that has all manner of proposition. It is not a gambling site really but is run by the Long Now Foundation which tries to encourage long term thinking.

Basically it acts like an exchange. Anyone can put up a proposition and if someone accepts it the bet is on.

Not a site you are going to make any money on as the results are often decades away...more for ego than anything else I would imagine but an interesting read nonetheless.

One site posted odds on who would be killed off in the next Harry Potter bet.

Yep. I remember because I posted the BetCRIS story on it. That has to be ranked as one of the top weridest props.

How about the Super Bowl prop on what phrase John Madden would say first.

Any book offering a prop on Fidel Castro dieing?
I think I saw something like that a while ago.
Probably a lot of action from Cubans in Miami.

Sometime mid-summer 1976 when I was in London, the props they had on the US presidential election that year seemed very strange and funny to me. Put a couple of quid on Ford and got my gambling career off to a losing start. That prop seems very common now. The hurricane props and all the spelling bee stuff recently ranks up there now.

2 of the best I've seen:

Will the Vikings have a "Love Boat II" at +10000

Will TO retire from football and open a sports bar?

I often see the hurricane prop cited here, but what do you think all the insurance companies do? They bet on there not being a hurricaine. On the licensed exchanges, there are lots of weather commodities for protecting companies against hurricaines etc..

Insurance is no different than the state lottery, usually at poorer odds.

Betting on how many Duke lacrosse players would show up on DNA testing was right up there.

Between friends I have heard some far out props.

One guy that likes firearms is worried that within 2 years you won't be able to buy any because he thinks the NY witch will get endorsed and done in and it will cause her party to take over everything and do away with all firearms. He was asking a couple guys if they would give him at least 50 -1 on that whole scenario playing out as I described within 2 1/2 years.
