Sports betting legal in Delaware by summer?
Sorry if this has been discussed already, but as an East Coast guy I was absolutely stunned when I read this today.

I live 25 minutes from Dover, and the idea of driving down there to place my plays is pretty cool.

Sorry if you guys already covered this in another thread.

Here is the link to read..

I just can't see this becoming reality sir. Their are just way too many negatives surrounding this one.

What do you see as negatives Dan?

A motivated legislature, and a state that needs money, and an economy in the tubes...add to the fact that Delaware doesn't have much else to offer, and I can see this being a slam dunk for them.

Additionally, the news outlets reporting this.....Forbes, Wall Street Journal, and Philadelphia Daily News...and I think it is already a foregone conclusion that it will get through.

I am curious to here why you think there are "negatives" surrounding this?

that's not the best option that I feel it is cool at all, I want the law to allow us to play at home without going out side and get pay as much as you want like you play stock right now. that's the best

Delaware having sports betting and the UIGEA are two mutually exclusive options.

One has nothing to do with the other.

The only way Delaware can even make this possible is because they flirted with sports betting in the 70's, allowing them to bypass any federal legislation that was enacted in the 80's.

We all would love to sit at home at play without having big brother snoop around, and there have been some small steps along that path lately....Baccus getting booted by the GOP from the Senate Finance Committee was a good start, but Delaware will offer a nice option and it will force the off shores to pay as timely as possible or guys in the east will just drive to Delaware.

Small steps, but overall this doesn't hurt anything concerning the repeal or tabling of the UIGEA.

There is a good chance of this going through, they have been working on this the past 2 years.People also doubted that Delaware would bring slots in.

Cane is right. AC would kill for sports betting. AC has big issues now.....lots of competition....Pennsylvania now has slots, Maryland has slots, Delaware has slots.....add the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods in Connecticut, and AC is surrounded by competition.

The reason AC can not have sports betting is because of a small federal law in 1992 that prohibits states from offering sports betting...outside of those who experimented with it in the 1970s. That means, four states can offer sports wagering...Nevada, Oregon, Delaware, and Montana.

There is absolutely nothing Vegas or AC can do to stop Delaware, if Delaware has the votes to approve it.

This would be a really good thing for the state also. Opening a sportsbook at Delaware Park, Dover Downs, and Harrington Raceway would be big business this state dearly needs and coming from someone who lives here and can't find a job to save his life HOPES something like this would happen and open up some jobs. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the legal poker room that is already available in Delaware about 3 blocks from Delaware Park. They have low limit/no-limit games available and they get away with it since all the rake is taken in for charity sans the living wage of a few of the employees.
