American dream or American reality - which life are YOU living?

With all the news of the economy and general doom and gloom reports being forced down our throats I was wondering how well off people actually are.

Personally speaking, I haven't noticed any significant changes here in Toronto, still have a decent job, a comfy place to live, vacation regularly, still have a bit of $$ with only a little bit of debt (approx $20K - total) and don't really need/want anything I don't already have.

How are YOU doing these days? Where are you located?
Are things as difficult in your neck of the woods as shown on the daily news?

going into survival mode here, I own a carpentry business and this year has been horrible business wise. Been living off last years income.
The news jsut makes matters worse than it really is. The public buys into the gloom and doom and therefore doesnt want to spend any money. Which in turn makes the business owners struggle.

Not doing too bad - I've seen a distinct downturn in animal fact threads, though. Hopefully these will pick up soon and kick-start the economy.

If by liberal, you mean blue...then you're selling yourself short. I consider states like South Dakota, Mississippi and such to be the armpits of the nation. And coincidentally, they are red.
